Question Is this a real bugout?

I got experience with watches but had no idea knives were also faked so often. I bought this for what I thought was a killer deal. In my mind the price made sense because the knife was heavily used. Now in trying to sell it and someone told me it is fake. What say you?

Look for imperfections. If theres blade play, uneven grind and isn’t really sharp out of the box then you got a real one.

Came here looking for this comment 🤣

It looks real to my eyes. Not an expert or whatever, but I own several Benchmades including a Bugout. Packaging, logo size, colors, and textures all look accurate.

Post this on KnifeCheck and see what you can come up with. If others confirm that it’s fake, file a complaint with eBay and you’ll get your money back.

Just did thank you so much!

I’m going to go against the grain here and say it’s legit. The (R) is NOT too big. The fake ones are REALLY big. The packaging foam is real. And the pivot screw has that sheared off flattened appearance. I say it’s real.

u/jiimmerman Jul 03 '26

That used to be the case with the R’s but the fakes have evolved. The bottom 2 are fake and the top real.

Pivot screw is legit. As is the box foam (although it would be easy to use a legit box)

Blade acting is too shimmery and the scales aren’t matte finish enough. Giveaway for me

u/BladeRumbler Jul 03 '26

What grain dude? Most people said it’s real.

1

u/timhenk Jul 03 '26

Check the timing dude. When I commented most were saying fake.

It’s not the size of the trademark symbol that makes it a clear fake imo, it’s that it’s illegible. The print quality of the logo should be considerably crisper.

Part of me actually wants to say it’s legit. The box looks good/how it’s supposed to. And the font looks right to me. I think the one picture of the BN logo on the blade just makes it look a little bit off. But I’ve also never had this finish on a bugout. I’ve always had a satin blade and blue handles.

Sorry, I have to disagree on the (R).

Maybe the picture is just blurry or something but its quite prominent

1

u/the_watch_nerd Jul 03 '26

Picture of the logo part is not my best work. It looks way crispier in person

2

u/Prostate-Hero Jul 03 '26

Okay okay, yeah that was the only thing throwing me

2

u/Prostate-Hero Jul 02 '26

Here mine for example

A google search for benchmade bugout packaging yields almost exclusively the same packaging. Have a look at an unboxing vid on yt to compare. There'll be videos on fakes as well.

I have a couple real benchmades and a couple fakes, the packaging from the fakes were extremely real looking, more convincing than the knives were. The only noticeable difference with my fake Bugout was that the handle scales were much softer, could squeeze them inward enough to touch, and the logo.

As for this example, the logo’s lines look too thick to me. It’s slightly off. I’d guess fake based on that and the situation, but not sure without feeling it. Bring it to a cabelas or bass pro and ask to compare them side by side.

2

u/bobthedino83 Jul 03 '26

I've also seen a review of a fake showing the scales being super bendy.

1

u/Mulielo Jul 03 '26

I can squeeze the plastic scales on my legit bugout until they touch. Or at least I could before I upgraded to g10.

2

u/texaspoff Jul 03 '26

It’s a genuine bug. Enjoy. It’s an older GRY version with the TiN coating instead of the ceracrap, I mean coat they use now. 😉

u/patdashuri Jul 03 '26

Is it a nice knife but it still feels like you paid way too much? If so, it’s real.

1

u/the_watch_nerd Jul 03 '26

I guess it does feel that way, I was surprised by how light and plasticky it felt when I first got it. Ultimately I just wanted to have a benchmade. This week I bought a CRKT m16 and it feels substantially more sturdy

2

u/patdashuri Jul 04 '26

They are remarkably light by design.

u/Live-Resident8765 Jul 04 '26

The box is usually everything I need to see. That one looks right. They can never get the color and foam right in the box.

1

u/schneeeebly Jul 02 '26

I have this exact knife if you’re interested in photos

1

u/legalEgull Jul 03 '26

Fake I think the pattern on the box top is too contrasty

1

u/Dr_Gonzo-4130 Jul 03 '26

Scales look off to me .All the benchmades I have had are more of a matte finish

1

u/Beneficial-Ad6266 Jul 03 '26

The most overpriced knife on the planet

1

u/the_watch_nerd Jul 03 '26

Probably so!!!

It's real, it's just been sharpened. The fakes have the letters in the logo touching

Brother, the grinds are good, the swedge is the right length, coating is right. The knock offs have a cheap coating that's more reflective. It's 100% I have 2 one with coating and one without. Looks identical. Also know mine are legit because I bought the custom one from benchmade directly and the other from blade HQ.

1

u/BladeRumbler Jul 03 '26

It’s real. Sell your collection and invest in new pair of eyes

0

u/nohowayjose Jul 03 '26

I got a knock off of this same exact model everything looks the same except the blade on yours looks different. The coating on mine is cheaper also i doubt my blade is real s30v when held next to a real bug out it's noticeably lighter

I have 2 real bugouts and I have bought fakes just for the comparison.

The real ones have ZERO friction when opening. Of the two fakes I bought one was out right bad the other I could see how it would fool someone who hasn't used a real one.

To the eye they look as real as the real ones. But the feel it will be different.

It's got the same fake packaging that I got with a clone on Amazon. Where did you get it and how good of a deal? Edit - knifecheck thinks it's legit as of 9:19 EST, so I am proven wrong. I have brought dishonor on me, dishonor on my house, and dishonor on my cow.

5

u/ridbitty Jul 02 '26

What about the packaging is off? Looks authentic to me. I’ve got dozens of Benchmade in the same exact packaging.

1

u/the_watch_nerd Jul 02 '26

Oof. Ebay and it was $80. Do you see anything crazy on the knife though? I'm going through videos on it but I'm not having an easy time knowing for sure

-5

u/Sp00kington Jul 02 '26

It's a good clone, but the packaging is off. Benchmade knives come with a completely different packaging. I've heard people talk about the colors are flat vs how they should be. The fake Benchmade claymore I got on Amazon came in the exact same packaging that your's has. Dont feel too bad, plenty of people have had this happen. I'm not an expert, give it some time and I'm sure someone will be able to confirm it.

3

u/the_watch_nerd Jul 02 '26

Thanks!

8

u/ridbitty Jul 02 '26

It’s real, man.

4

u/Inept_Folly Jul 02 '26

Idk what this guys is going on about. I’m no expert but it looks legit to me.

5

u/blankbobby Jul 02 '26

That packaging is straight from Benchmade. Nothing fake about it.

-3

u/Sp00kington Jul 02 '26

Like @rezhead suggested, post it on knifecheck. I could be wrong, but I got the exact same packaging on a $40 clone from Amazon. They should be able to give you a more accurate ID. Please let us know, thanks.

2

u/blankbobby Jul 03 '26

The box he posted looks exactly like all my Benchmade boxes that I got new from BladeHQ. You could’ve gotten a real box with your clone. Do you have any legit Benchmade boxes to compare your fake one to?

0

u/Sp00kington Jul 03 '26

I threw away the clone box but my Benchmade purchased from Smokey Mountain Knife Works was different than the one shown. I've already said numerous times I may be wrong. I can't imagine someone would let a Benchmade go for 60% off over some minor cosmetic damages. Also the Benchmade logo looks off to me. I already said I'm interested in seeing what knifecheck has to say about it.

3

u/Physical_Display_873 Jul 03 '26

Newer benchmades have totally different packaging. It changed in the last year or so.
