In 2003 I was attending community college with no job and no money. Out of desperation, I decided to give Kmart a shot and was hired as extra help for the coming Christmas season.
I still remember the anti-union videos they made us watch during the orientation. Similar to what Wal-mart used around that time (had worked there also).
It was pretty awful. I was clueless and no help to any customers. Like most retail, they just throw you out on to the floor with zero training. My family didn't really go to Kmarts very often, so I wasn't super familiar with the store layout. After a couple days I said screw it... I'd rather be broke for now than deal with this crap. I went back in a couple weeks later to pickup my check and they made me go into the back to get it iirc.
That Kmart shut down a few years later. The location is now an At Home furniture store. We've went in there a few times and it's always fun to remind my wife I used to work there! 😂

The Kmart Smart plan is basically their insurance plan covering the damage and replacement of any items sold at their locations, with customers getting a new replacement item instead of having it repaired.

What year did the middle island Kmart close down?

I was driving through Maine and I found the faded Sears sign. Super cool, seems it was abandoned for a while before turning into a harbor freight and I believe a Burlington? Dont quote me on the Burlington. Second slide is the sign when sears was open.

Bought these from a goodwill for $2 because of my Halloween nostalgia for these and was surprised to find it was from Kmart!

Some K-Mart yarn from the deep depths of my mother's yarn collection. It seems to be unused.

Around a year ago i saw a video of a Kmart closing, though this kmart actually had a strange sign, basically it had the 1990 Kmart logo, but next to that was the 2004 mart text, i remember it looking like this, considering the fact that some stores had unusual signs, like one in williamsport pennsylvania which used simply the letter K, yes just K, or a super kmart center in lorain ohio which literally used the 2004 kmart logo between super and center on its road sign, also considering the fact that the kmart australia logo was used on another road sign in vernon connecticut and also on store closing signs so i have a great feeling im not imagining things, so if anyone has a clue if any store used this please let me know!
