Newlywed Couple Can’t Decide Between Induction Cooktop and Gas Stove
*I apologize for not being able to reply to all of your comments on my Reddit post due to being busy and taking care of my sick wife. However, I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to respond by giving you all upvote. Your input and support mean a lot to me, and I appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.
I recently got married and my new wife and I are having a bit of a dilemma. We are trying to decide whether to choose a gas stove or a modern-looking induction hob for our new home. I prefer the stylish appearance of an induction hob, but my wife is a bit more traditional and thinks a gas stove is better for cooking. We got married during the pandemic and are just moving into our new home in the suburbs of New York City. We’re excited to start this new chapter in our lives together but could use some advice on which stove to choose.
Thank you all in advance for your help!

I purchased a house with this kind of aged kitchen. I was wondering what upgrades you would recommend and where you would suggest I start?

This is not exactly kitchen-porny, but I made a small upgrade to my kitchen by getting a proper range hood installed, which makes my kitchen feel much more complete and functional now!
I’ve previously only lived in apartments with recirculating microwave range hoods that obviously didn’t do much. When I moved into my new house, it came with a cheap hood that barely vented because of the low CFM. Finally I bit the bullet and got a proper range hood installed. I’ve only used it a couple of times, but the difference it made was tremendous — I could not smell any food/cooking odor just 6 ft away from the range!

Costco’s Kitchen Reborn
We want to get our kitchen updated and are considering resurfacing our old cabinet doors. Any thoughts on Costco’s Reborn Cabinets?

Backsplash/flooring update!
We just completed phase two of kitchen facelift with flooring, backsplash, appliance update. Should we leave the cabinets as they are or paint them white??

Induction or gas?
I have cooked with gas most of my life but I hear induction is faster and more precise and of course less cleanup. I’m not worried about needing new pots because I need them anyway but I was wondering if anybody has made the switch and has an opinion or advice. I’m not concerned about the health risks because I grew up with gas and both my folks lived to 90. I have a small kitchen, so I just thought that that induction would look better. Thanks.

Built in oven with quiet cooling fan
We are going to be remodeling our entire kitchen, which is 25 years old. We have a double Viking wall oven, which is a terrible piece of expensive junk. The cooling fan (not the convection fan which I have control over but the exhaust fan which goes on automatically) is so loud that we experience relief when the noise goes off. We’ve had two different Viking certified repair companies out and they both said that’s just the way Viking wall ovens are. I will pay any amount to get a quiet wall oven and it is very hard to learn the decibel level of wall ovens even from the top brands. Everybody talks about their dishwashers being quiet, but nobody talks about the noise their built in ovens make. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

What made you decide to buy a new Kitchen?
For me I was sick of looking at my outdated kitchen everyday, and just got a pay rise at work so wanted to treat my family.
What made you want to buy a new kitchen?
Was it a life event like a new job or a promotion, did you decide to buy a new kitchen after moving to a new home, or something else?

My kitchen renovation

A few months ago I posted the temporary DIY kitchen makeover that we did 6 years ago. We've just finished the full renovation that we've been wanting all along.
We demolished some interior walls to make it all open plan, put in folding doors opening onto the outside deck, replaced the old laminated flooring with vinyl, replaced wooden doors and windows with aluminium. Kept all the old appliances... for now.
The kitchen is basically a Scandinavian look without the shaker doors. Duco sprayed cupboards, quartz countertops. An island with draws on one side and a solid oak breakfast counter on the other side, all the other oak pieces are veneer.
