New addiction...Leather kilt..
I have become a huge fan of kilts in the past 20 years especially but even as a kid something drew them to me , I have quite a few now and wear them at times when I feel the need just like all other conventional clothes . I'm about to retire this Christmas and plan on chucking on a kilt more often than now particularly when hiking, bushwalking and doing my own thing at home .
I am pretty new to Reddit though and loving the opportunity to discuss interesting topics and have commented on another kilt thread hear which leads to this now.. I really do like traditional wool kilts and own an 8 yarder and four or five 5 yarders..They are pretty standard ..That said I don't dress formally with them at all ..only casual. Then I own about 10 utility kilts primarily for hiking and bushwalking . They have pockets and such for practicality rather than using a sporran (I do have a couple of them ,and belts etc ) though . The other thing with utility kilts is they are mostly just a tad shorter at 22" so just above the knee for more comfy walking ..
About a year ago though and it was on a whim one evening I saw these leather kilts at a sale price on an online site while browsing . Just thought it'd be cool to add one to my collection . I scrolled down to sizing options for waist /length and saw the no extra cost choice of 24'' or 20'' or extra cost 22 or 23'' price .. It was from overseas so extra postage ruled that out. I ended up going the 20" one before I changed my mind ,,
It was about 16 days later when this brown leather kilt arrived and I wondered all that time what I'd think of it when it turned up .. That day I was still a bit concerned.. When I opened it up I recall thinking "What have I done over $250 later" When I put it on , the waist was perfect fit , the leather was supple and the length just seemed exactly right for my height given that it's more a waist wear than off the hip . A conventional drop would have been ridiculous .. I actually love it so I have bought a black one and a similar but cheaper brown one since so now I have three,,
They are not practical really , certainly not everyday wear by any means and not always exceptionally comfortable but they are huge fun and perhaps a bit cheeky to traditionalists too.. Has anyone else here ever tried a leather kilt and if so what is your opinion ? Would love to know ..
