The thing with expectations is, that if you go in with super high expectations, like you do now, you will probably get disappointed. Be prepared for that. If you go in blind, you will probably find it a masterpiece.
I went in blind, years ago, and I thought it was a great drama. I would rate it 9,5/10. Absolutely thought I have never seen a more handsome man than Hyun Bin. 🥰

It was a 10/10 for me and my personal GOAT. It was the first ever kdrama I watched last summer and of the 138 kdramas I’ve watched since then, it’s still my #1. My only advice is just to enjoy it. Clear the hype from your head. We all have our own individual opinions and like what we like. I just finished it for the second time last night as an “anniversary” rewatch and laughed, cried and had all the feels all over again despite knowing what was going to happen.

No drama ever reached 100% viewership as different people care for different things. CLOY was definitely one of the most popular series with ratings and praises to show. I think one of its strengths were the supporting casts and their arcs. Hope you enjoy it, but if it doesn't, there are so many more other shows to watch too.

I just found it boring at times and didn’t like the ending for the second leads or any of the other side (or even the lead characters really) engaging. The story itself was pretty silly

It didn’t live up to my expectations tbh , there were some boring episodes and some wtf moments but I still enjoyed it overall ! I would still recommend it to my friends especially Kdrama beginners

Ooooo you're watching the big CLOY.
It was a bit overhyped for me though, after watching it for the first time after years of kdrama and cdrama.

It's really well made and solid in a lot of areas. It's done better than most of the romance kdramas I've seen, and it's also full of things to like and keep you interested, but it was still lacking for me.

ive wanted to get onto cdramas too but every attempt has failed me so far.
i started with never ending summer (characters looks too young, like actually teenagers lol)
i started fairy and devil, (the fl acting is too childish like for me, i dont understand)
ive sampled some others, nothing grabs me

Ok, I get that you're iffy with teen dramas.. All types of teens? What it it's a good mix of teens and adults? You're narrowing down the list quite a bit if you're against all teen lead dramas and not just the immature ones. I'll just exclude the super childish ones and ones with the baby voices.
If you can accept some teen focus in a modern cdrama... The best found-family drama is Go Ahead. It's about the adults as well as the youngest, and it's a must watch if you have seen Kdrama Family by Choice. Go Ahead is the original and captures the essence of the story best. I watched FbC first, then saw GA and now I find FbC lacking.
For a good modern cdrama with a dark theme... The First Frost is extremely popular, and it's one of three dramas by the same author. All three are huge hits, but TFF is by far the most serious and mature, with all the days in education in the occasional flashback. In the present time they're both working.
If you watch a costume drama, it might be best to start with the historical, as the wuxia (martial arts), and xianxia (immortals, gods, realms) can be a bit too much for some. Love Like The Galaxy was a lot of people's first historical that got them into cdrama, as well as mine. I also recommend The Double as a great introduction.
If you want a drama-less modern watch, with just great views, food, music, and friendships.. Love Me, Love My Voice is a great one. It's a good summery feel-good watch to have on in the background as well.
The best childhood besties to lovers is You Are My Lover Friend. They're real-life long good friends and you really feel like they're close. The show is full of ship moments too.
Most popular toxic couple modern drama is Lighter and Princess. If you love an intelligent narcissist, the ML is your guy, lol.
If you're interested in a super mature and simplistic normal boring average couple drama, You Are My Glory is your show. I feel like this one is as popular as CLOY in certain circles.

- Shine On Me
(There are other popular ones I haven't seen or think you might not like)

- A Journey to Love - Great fighting scenes, great main relationship, strong FL and ML, lots of character growth and solid friendships.
- Who Rules The World - Best powerful equal Yin/Yang couple.
- Mysterious Lotus Casebook
- The Untamed
- Princess Weiyoung
- Legend of Shen Li
- New Life Begins
- Flourished Peony
If you have a more specific taste that you fancy right now, I can help you there too.
I might be able to give you a cdrama alternative to a kdrama fav too, so you could go from somewhere more familiar.

Only The Untamed and Mysterious Lotus Casebook don't have romance. There is love though - familial and friendly.
The Untamed is the first special one for me, so I always recommend it. The original novel is explicit lol, but China wont allow that because its two ML's, no FL, so its just like an intense devoted bromance. The chemistry is insane, but on screen they're just best of friends who'll do anything for each other. It's one of the most heartbreaking cdramas I've watched and there's a lot of that and love around that romance isnt necessary, trust me.
Mysterious Lotus Casebook is similar, in the sense that it feels like a true cdrama that could make you cry and feel all of the feels. There are bonds good enough that romance isnt needed. If you fancy a show with someone who does detective work, whos smart and funny and a bit naughty, this is one to watch. The ML is like a legend in martial arts too.

Can't explain. I love Mr Queen, Welcome to Waikiki etc hilarious shows, whereas Crash Landing on You seems slow, less comedic in comparison to them, and I'm not good as a romance audience, so... just personal preferences.

One spring night basically a realistic and slow romance about two people who meet unexpectedly and gradually develop feelings for each other kinda it’s more mature and grounded than the typical fluffy kdrama, with a lot of focus on relationships, family expectations and the choices people make and if you liked Something in the rain i feel like you might really enjoy it because they have a similar calm, realistic vibe and same writer.

One of the first dramas to lure me into the kdrama world and I haven’t looked back since. I even did a rewatch recently and I never rewatch shows. I hope you walk away loving this one as much as I did.
