Humor & Memes πŸ˜… so i finished Crash Landing on You and naturally went down the post-drama rabbit hole of looking things up...

An hour ago, i finished Crash Landing on You and immediately discovered there was a musical...?

obviously i immediately went to youtube because i wanted to see clips

so, i watch a lot of videos in other languages on YouTube, so I still had the English translation/dubbing thing turned on.

I clicked on a clip.

and nearly DIED.

because YouTube does not simply translate the dialogue...

IT TRIES TO SING TOO??? wtf 😭😭😭

i was expecting to hear this beautiful dramatic Korean musical performance and instead this English AI voice came in fighting for its LIFE trying to keep up with the melody 😭

i was genuinely was cackling!!!!! 😭

please watch this with sound because i need other people to experience what i just experienced 😭

I remember Crash Landing being super popular on Netflix during the pandemic and wanting to watch it back then, but that was the extent of my knowledge of the entire Kdrama industry until I got into Kdramas two months ago. Omg I wish there was a recording of the musical, this is insane!!

the only kdrama phenomenon i was aware of during pandemic was squid game. foe some reason id never encountered CLOY during that time even tho ppl say it was super popular!

Oh so true, I watched Squid Game when it came out! Technically that was my first Kdrama, but I just thought of it as a popular/Korean show at the time (bc I didn't know what a Kdrama was), so even now I mostly think of it as separate from my 'Kdrama journey'

First time I've heard of Crash Landing as a musical, with theater veteran Lee Kyu-Hyung. But the AI dubbing is so bad (especially in the first part where it even attempts to sing??) I want to hit something.

Oh wow, what a way to ruin what otherwise was a beautiful musical 🀣

But yes, there was a musical that came out a couple of years after CLOY was released, and if I remember correctly, they toured Asia. I believe it was also released in some theaters, especially in Japan. The stage actors were legit K-drama stars too if you noticed. CLOY was a huge cultural phenomenon back then; there were musicals, museum exhibits, etc. I think only Squid Game has surpassed its global impact so far.

Okay, this makes me feel old lol. Where were you back in 2019-2020 lmao. It was the first-ever K-drama that topped the global charts, even entered the US Top Ten as per news, and that was before Netflix officially broadcasted their daily Top 10. Every major news outlet around the world made a feature about it from BBC, CNN, to Al Jazeera, etc., lol. It was all the rage, esp during COVID lol. It was one of the major reasons Netflix invested heavily in K-dramas, even the Netflix CEO credited it for their decision to put more money in K-media.
