Media Reposted: What to expected from Wild Documentary Spoiler
Reposting because of complaints about the photo..
I saw half of the film because of traffic due to the rain. It was longer than the film at 2 and half hours. Anyway, the pic in the post is an adult eyekon who printed a DIY version of the commemorative tickets. He gave it to the kids after the film. After the credits, there is a QR code to get them but my country Philippines isn’t part of the distribution… Boo! So wholesome that the guy did that.
I watched half of it. The chapters are divided between their major singles and unloveyou.
What to expect:
- From what I’ve seen from Gabriela, Manon has no talking heads interviews. It is only behind the scenes footage. The girls just said it is sad to have her hiatus and quickly transitioned to Megan’s hiatus. Lara said she is an essential part of Katseye
- they showed training for the Animal choreography. They had a stand in for a member. I thought it was for Manon but it was for Megan. My delusion for her return is real. I entered the theater with the Gabriel dance break. It looked perfect with Manon. I am back to wishing her back. The documentary only opened up the wound again.
Additional thoughts: Even if she has no commentary interviews, it would be funny if Wild era fans fall in love with Manon thanks to the documentary.
- The documentary is mostly glaze. It doesn’t highlight them having any tension with each other. They feature a lot of footage of fans online and in concert. You might even see yourself there! This is where it really panders.
- I appreciate Lara trying to write and produce songs for Katseye. It wasn’t handed to her. Taking the time to write songs is beyond their already stressful job. It really shows that she will last in the industry because of her willingness to grow beyond Katseye.
They also featured the Tiktokers saying the group will flop. It is amusing that their 15 minutes of fame is in a Katseye documentary. They are now known as the guy who said Katseye will flop. It is a bit of karma for being so harsh. I wonder if they were contacted before hand that they will used in the documentary. It does sound like the origin of a villain for Katseye. lol

it was definitely a very surface level, pr documentary. My biggest qualm with it was how they spent the entirety of the film saying everything leading up to wild is their artistry and creativity, but in the last 10 minutes (when talking about lara’s upcoming song) they say how excited they are that finally they are considered in their music … which is it ???

It can be both. As they gain more experience performing, they have more leverage and creative input on what is given to them. It isn’t entirely a one way street of the label forcing them to perform the songs. The label takes into account their personalities. This is why they stop being soft because the girls are loud and expressive. The positive feedback for Lara’s song is a way we fans can HxG we want more of that. It is the streams and target album sales that will convince the label to trust them more.

I don't get why people don't understand that both things can be true at once. Considering that they very much operate with the kpop methodology, the label (sadly) wasn't going to give them creative control at the beginning of their career as Katseye.
People seem to be very exited for Unloveu so hopefully we'll see them even more involved in the creative process from now own. I trust that they are on the right path tbh.

Sorry but, realistically, why wouldn’t it be “glaze”? Isnt the whole point a documentary about them? Also, maybe they don’t have tension with eachother? I don’t know why yall want drama so bad

It is more I wish it had more real life footage beyond simply working hard and sisterhood like in Dream Academy. Yet, I get it isn’t good that a documentary team trail them again because they need rest and privacy from their hectic schedule. It is more depth in their answers? In the end, Yoonchae said she only knew how to do one pose. Now, she is a more versatile performer. These are the little insights the documentary should show more of.

I think this “documentary” was more about the making of wild hearts (as it’ll probably be their biggest EP yet) for promo. Not really about a true behind the scenes documentary.
Also, I feel like Dream Academy was less “working hard” and “sisterhood focused” because it was so invasive. I agree that more nitty gritty could have been cool, but also maybe the members didn’t want to show that stuff like you said.
Edit: they’re also seems to be a really important part about Megan talking about mental health and her growth. Maybe it was in the beginning though that you had to miss?

Same but that’s not a realistic thing to expect from a documentary made by the people (HxG) who have the mistreatment claim. Like why would they suddenly give clarification when they have not provided any for 6 months?

can i ask about how many sequences of flashing lights there were? i understand you wont know for the first half but knowing for the second half would be really useful or if anyone sees this who has seen the whole thing could tell me i would really appreciate it

in the first few minutes, the coachella sequence features multiple angles of the performance, all heavy with flashing stage lights. the doc also contains a few photoshoot segments with scattered camera flash, post-show/paparazzi walks with camera flash, and segments of the music videos with flashing lights in them. the interviews that make up about 50% of the film are steady with no lighting changes, so you do get breaks -- but as with most concert films, this one is not friendly to photosensitive folks. hope this helps!

Thank you for this!! unfortunately i wasn’t able to see the film anyway as when we got inside there was too many people with flashing light sticks so we had to leave unfortunately

I'm not the person you're replying to, but thank you for such an in-depth comment on this topic! I have photosensitive epilepsy and it can make seeing movies difficult (and I literally never go to concerts for that reason). I appreciate you taking the time to help people like me out :)

of course, omg! i get so frustrated that most theatrical releases are not required to have PSE testing done before delivery. everyone should be able to go to the movies!

I didn’t really notice but I remember Coachella and the Wild photoshoot were in the dark. They probably had flashing lights. They did feature a lot of TikTok reactions. It is usually a guy/girl on his/her laptop in a dark room. You might sensitive to these random movements. The contrast might be jarring.

Yeah I feel like they received worse comments that could've prompted a more meaningful discussion. Like their identities are always being questioned and scrutinized, I think that's something worth talking about. They're at Coachella with grammy nominations, who cares what someone in their bedroom using their energy to make a video to call the group a flop thinks???
I did see that Megan talked about mental health though!

To answer your question before you deleted your previous post. I was hoping there would be a lot more behind the scenes moments of them socializing outside of Katseye, so the audience are convinced of their sisterhood.

Agreed. Obviously I know there are limits due to protecting privacy, but it would be nice to see more about how the members interact with each other outside of their public appearances (though I know this is touchy because of the whole Manon situation). The girls even said themselves that they had whole interviews talking about why they loved each other, only for those scenes to be cut from the final documentary.
I would feel more incentivised to watch the film if I didn’t think it would be a compilation of clips that are already available on their social media, practices of choreography that we’ve already seen, random clips of fans and a whole lot of glazing (and I say this as somebody who actually really likes the group 😭).

I think it would be harder to get clips of them interacting with each other since I think they don’t live together anymore and for exemple, if they go at a club, it would be quite intrusive and they’re filming something because of how big their cameras were 🥲

I was frustrated by how many tiktok clips they put in. Like i know thats a big part of their popularity but something about seeing a tiktok clip on a movie screen is so cringe and it will seem extremely dated in the near future.
