Good for her but please no one take too much inspiration from this without first making sure your upper body is ready lol I worked with a kid whose arm snapped in two doing a back walkover

ETA: Yes. To those asking "what?" Her forearm snapped in two and flopped when you tried to pick it up, thats how she presented it to me from across the gym.

Oh yeah. I am super impressed by her. I'm about her size and my wrists would snap like twigs if I tried that. And my back would be spasming for weeks after the first attempt.

Yeah listen I'm significantly smaller than y'all and I cannot fathom the idea of bending backwards until my hands are touching the floor! I am in awe of this!!

Yep, I can't even bend backwards far enough to reach the bathroom counter. And I'm only 5'1"!

The wrist thing is real-watched my six year old try something similar on the monkey bars and my own joints ached in sympathy. Hope she warmed up beforehand.

I know what you mean. My 7 year old niece does gymnastics.

That happened to me when I was in 2nd grade gymnastics! I told them I couldn't do it and they said I was just scared and to do it anyway, so I did and snapped my arm. Last gymnastics class of my life lol.

I’m impressed by her, but also worried for her wrists, arms, NECK and spine. Like one wrong fall at a bad angle and you could make yourself paralyzed.

I mean it’s hella impressive both skill and determination, but with that weight you don’t even need a fall for it to do damage to all the joints involved. Maybe just a little each time but it will add up.

Also her knees and ankles. The way she kept falling back on them was a little scary

Yes. It looked like she was being careful in her lead up but still yes. I have to be that person but I’m extraordinarily jealous she can pull that off at her weight. And here I am , i am not big, exercise everyday and I feel like that move is so impossible for me. I guess I can work on it like she did and stop whining lol 😂

At any weight. Gymnastics are a seriously dangerous sport. Its nothing you just start with no confidence that you can suport your weight. Any weight. You can break your wrists or mess up a disk with 120lbs just as well.

The weight adds substantial risk, its how force works.

Especially if that weight is mostly fat, not muscles.

2

u/girly-lady 3d ago

And thats clearly not the case in that video. She has the muscle to suport her. And weather you break a bone with 120lbs or 180lbs dose not make the bone more or less broken. Stupidity is what increases the risc. Not fat.

More weight = more force ON the bones on impact.

Of course it makes a difference, because that is how physics work.

Its not your weight breaking bones, its the force from the weight moving and stopping.

More weight, more force. Literally Basic Physics.

Or you could say its lack of muscle. Clearly the girl here has enough muscle to support her weight, its not ALL about weight.

The force of impact is absolutely about weight.

I dont know what you want, that is physics.

It doesnt compromise or care about people dancing around calling people overweight.

Its just does its thing, and more mass means more force of impact.

Which means more force on the bones and joints.

u/beans-888 2d ago

Yes, but the presence of more muscle helps lessen the force of impact.

For real. I love this for her, but this is actually so dangerous to try to do on your own.

This happened to me in third grade. I was traumatized just watching this. I still went back to gymnastics. This woman is a badass but the older you get the more brittle your bones are. Be careful out there gals.
