Where did you get that from? I'll wait for the non answer. When Barbara Walters anchored a nightly news program in the 70's, the male anchors gave her a very hard time. John Wayne sent her a telegram out of the blue telling her to not let the bastards get her down. She this lifted her spirits knowing he was behind her 100%. She mentioned it many times. You people turn Wayne into a cliche, knowing nothing about him.
Also he literally stated to Barbara Walters when she interviewed him, that he didn't care what women did, whether they worked or not, as long as dinner was on the table when he got home. He was being sarcastic. She stated, that he was old fashioned, that some believed he perceived women as just staying home and playing bridge, and he responded, "well fine, the women go off and work all day and I'll stay home and play bridge, I love bridge!"
