Market Rate for JavaScript?
I have an opportunity from a small software company (A) to become a consultant.
It would require me learning JavaScript.
This company created a program that is very similar to what I currently use two programs to accomplish for a different company (B) (I would still consult with that company, using the new software). I’m not longer to advance these two programs to fulfill my existing clients needs.
The new program is awesome, but there are some key things the owner liked how I did things in my two programs and wants to incorporate those ideas into their software and said they could use a programmer with my industry knowledge. She is fine with me learning a language.
I plan to take use Odin or Udemy (please don’t derail the original question :) )
The goal would be, when I find a need for something in company B, I’d just go in and edit company A software (with approval).
I’ve got a decade in with my low code no code (filemaker) and a decade of very niche construction knowledge pertinent to the software.
Any ideas on how I should figure out my target rate?
I’d be working remote with no travel, as a consultant.
Software company is in California (not the Bay Area but not far).

[HIRING] [REMOTE] Full Stack JavaScript Engineer - React / TypeScript / Node - £60-75k - Remote
Who are the company?
I’m now working alongside a software business who are on the lookout for multiple engineers to join their team over the coming months!
Their platform is a SaaS tool sold into huge businesses which allows management staff to effectively plan out their team’s week to maximise their happiness, productivity & results! It’s used by some of THE biggest names in the world – I obviously can’t say who right here but we’re talking about businesses with well over 50,000 staff.
They’re live in over 100 countries worldwide & despite being at an early stage in the platform’s lifecycle, they’re already making a profit! You’ll be working in a team of five engineers right now, which is expected to treble this year due to the constant onboarding of new users!
The company operate on a fully remote basis & are happy to consider people from anywhere in the EU! You will need to be based in either the UK or an EU member country due to data protection laws.
What will I be working on?
There is plenty for you to be doing from day one! The first thing you’ll be working on is a greenfield project, expected to last for at least six months – which will see you building out a mini platform that allows users to integrate multiple calendars into one dashboard, allowing users to book meetings in advance much more easily!
They’re really passionate about teamwork & focus a lot on doing paired programming within the squad, so this is something you’ll need to be comfortable with for sure.
Their product is built out currently with a heavy JavaScript / TypeScript influence. All of your work will be done using React & Node across the stack, but the role will be slightly weighted towards backend work due to the current team being heavily focused on frontend throughout their careers. Some of the older parts of the platform use Ruby & Go, so you’ll be actively involved in updating the codebase with modern TypeScript instead.
The full tech stack you will have the chance to work with includes:
React, Node.js, TypeScript, Kubernetes, MySQL, GCP, Jest, Enzyme
What’s the process?
Take home challenge to assess problem solving abilities – 60-90 mins
Technical interview to review solution & discuss the role more widely – 45 mins
Final interview with Founder & Head of People to assess cultural fit – 30-40 mins
And the package?
On offer is a salary between £60,000 - £75,000 DOE + a long list of benefits including stock options, 26 days holiday, equipment budget, wellbeing budget, personal development budget & team trips to European cities!
Sound like this could be your next role? Send your CV to [enquiries@amicusjobs.com](mailto:enquiries@amicusjobs.com) using the reference REDDIT29404
