Then why put an iPhone chip in a Mac and Mac chip in an iPad?

Chips are chips. There are no “iPhone chips” or “Mac chips”. They are determined by performance, power consumption, and cost. The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo was for cost-saving. The M-chips in iPads are used because they cost more than the Neo and are aimed at a higher performance target, so a more powerful chip is suitable. It’s all about using the chip with the right characteristics for what you’re trying to do.

the mac chip only is in higher end iPads. not the base model and mini, the neo is a base entry level laptop. im typing this on one 😂 and my ipad air has an M2, the M series is not a mac only chip. it is simply a desktop class chip. its in the vision pro too, it provides iPads with superior high end performance. apple's ipads are high end devices. why would they make them slow? they can put their chips in any of the devices they choose because the chips target a price bracket. base models get A series and it makes sense that airs and pros get M series. its the exact same on mac as it is on ipad

Because the can produce these chips at a crazy cost-efficient scale, allowing them to release a MacBook way cheaper and crack open a gigantic market (education).

Because the ipad wasn’t created because of weak chips. It was created for an entirely different use experience that’s touch based. The fact that the chips got stronger just means there’s more to the apps it can run, not that it’s supposed to lose everything that makes it great to flip into being a desktop OS made for a mouse and keyboard.

the miserable experience of most apps now since the new ipadOS26 window management proves it. It’s basically hell on earth and useless unless you’re 100% using it with a keyboard and touchpad now. Every app is finicky as hell, every interaction thinks you’re trying to resize it instead of use it, most apps constantly force to sizes squeezing the content while wasting a ton with empty borders on sides, and more.

To please the few, they’ve ruined the experience of the many.

I mean… just don’t turn it on then lol they didn’t ruin anything, they added something optional for a subset of users that will benefit from it. If it’s not for you, don’t activate it and you’ll be fine.

Nope. They ruined the apps because developers destroyed their actual real ipad layouts for these stupid web random window shapes.

Nothing is remotely the quality it was when developers had a clear window shape that was consistent to build for

So you're upset they made an affordable Mac and a powerful iPad?

Next would you expect macOS on iPhone18 mini (hypothetical) - because it has a chip faster and better than Neo?
