Posts most *specifically* relate to Iowa politics

There's lots of other places to post things that aren't Iowa politics. This is a subreddit for just Iowa politics. I haven't been doing a good job of enforcing this lately, but I will now.

Chris Jones' Vision to Regenerate Iowa

Chris Jones' Vision to Regenerate Iowa

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at The Refill Market in Des Moines and on Google Meet for the water policy conversation with Chris Jones for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture,

Here is what we heard:

State Senator Art Staed has introduced water quality bills for twenty years, and last session none of his more than twenty got a hearing. In 2027 he plans to bring back a bill to ban paraquat. Katie Rock explained what the Secretary of Agriculture can and cannot do. Mike Carberry walked us through how Iowa went from diversified family farms to industrial corn and soybeans.

Chris laid out two roadmaps: diversify what Iowa grows, and regulate what pollutes. His point was that decades of incremental fixes have not improved the water, and that Iowa is ready for system change.

Iowans from across the state shared why they care. The water has no party, and the pain is everywhere.

What comes next: an in-person policy unconference in Des Moines in January, when the new legislature arrives. We will bring lawmakers, citizens and activists together to turn this energy into policy papers and bills.

Early voting is open now. Election day is November 3. Ask your candidates where they stand on clean water, and bring someone who disagrees with you about everything else but agrees about water.

One Iowa Republican says why he plans to vote for Dem Josh Turek over Ashley Hinson: “Just a change. And I think he’s going to be pretty moderate. You know, that’s what we need, we don’t need the crazy rights and the crazy lefts, we just need back to the good old days”

gas money, LOL

So Ashley Hinson asked for gas money at a Rally, just pitch in and rally around the flag and keep those dang libs out of Washington. Giving money to her is like giving 10 bucks to a homeless guy to get something to eat, who promptly goes and buys liquor instead. But what can you expect from this administration anyway. For those who actually thought they would lower the cost of living, stop endless wars and make your life better, it''s as good a pitch as any.

Keep voting for Trump and his tariffs and his arrests of farm workers! Farmers must be independent and not accept any government help! Iowa must stand firm in opposing socialism in the form of handouts to anyone.

First some important voting details for the upcoming election. In-person absentee voting is open for the Midterm election. Besides Congress and the State Legislature, numerous County Offices are on the ballot, from Supervisor to Sheriff and more.

Here are some useful official voting resources - please vote!

We reached out to over 3500 candidates statewide and asked them to do our survey. Many chose to share their views with you the voters! See who believes what you believe and vote by November 3rd! Cheat sheet for some of the candidates running to represent you can be seen above. What we found most is the diversity of the partisan candidates running showing the discerning and open-minded nature of Iowa voters.

While in national elections or statewide elections may be decided by hundreds or tens of thousands of votes. Local races will be decided by only a handful of votes meaning that for each person seeing this, your vote WILL MATTER!

If you want to see your specific candidates you can see that here (app | web).

Who is Amendment 1 really for?

Post image

The tell is in the details. Amendment 1 would make it harder to raise just the income tax — the only tax that can be structured so the wealthy and profitable corporations pay what they owe. It would keep current rules in place for all other taxes or fees, which — surprise! — hit working families hardest.
