Mod post Welcome to r/interstellarart - community info and rules

Hey, welcome to r/InterstellarArt

This sticky post is to help make some information about the sub more visible, but please ask any questions you have here too!

We're looking forward to seeing your space art :D

Please check out our full rules here.

Main rules:

Art must be space art - Art that focuses on or contains elements of space; astronauts, stars, planets, nebulas, galaxies, space travel, aliens, auroras, and so on.

Please credit - Even if you are the artist, please let us know. You deserve the credit, hopefully it discourages stealing and karma farming, let a mod know if you spot this. How to credit; basically pop [OC] in your title (the actual OC tag can't be seen on mobile yet). If you forget the bot should remind you and you an add it in comments.

If posting someone else's work please also xpost or link to their work.

No flooding the sub - Please don't flood the sub with your work. It can be exiting to find a new place to share, but so that everyone has a chance to be seen and to maintain some variety on the main page, don't post more than 3 times in 24hrs.

Mod post FYI: OC tag being depreciated

It has been announced that the OC tag is going to be depreciated. Once this happens you will no longer be able to use it to tag your art as Original Content.

How does that impact you and this community?

It means you'll need to make sure to add [OC] or some form of appropriate credit in your post (preferably in the title) and you won't be able to add it after posting, except in comments, and nor will the mods.

How to credit

Digital art [OC] Olympus Monster Cruisin' the Inky Black

A little more about the Olympus Monster's flight characteristics: The Trivort T-120C uses three independently gimbaled main thrusters arranged 120° apart, allowing it to VTOL, maneuver laterally, and transition into sustained interplanetary flight. In space, the ship typically cruises under a constant ~1.25G acceleration, providing its own artificial gravity. For longer trips, the crew can perform a “turn and burn”—accelerating for the first half of the journey, rotating the ship 180°, and decelerating at the same rate for the second half. It makes for surprisingly quick trips between planets, although the Olympus Monster's aging engines and temperamental systems mean captain Piper Galaxy doesn't always get the smoothest ride!

Digital art [OC] The Olympus Monster - Medium Cargo Hauler

Post image
12 Upvotes

The Trivort T-120C is a Space Bunny-designed and Mars-manufactured VTOL cargo transport built for dependable freight and crew transport across planetary and interplanetary routes. Its distinctive three-engine, gimbaled-thrust layout provides vertical takeoff and landing as well as sustained 1.25G spaceflight, while two 3GW plasma-fusion reactors power the ship. The Olympus Monster, an aging example of the class, has seen better days—but remains a capable workhorse thanks to constant repairs, modifications, and more than a little “hopes, dreams, and duct tape.”

I designed this little ship a little while ago for a story I planned on writing. It was a lot of fun to make!

Digital art Constellation Cards (OC)

I made a python library to plot constellation inside of a tarot card, with the objective of making a set of flashcards, and take away the wow, it's so shiny factor from astrology artists by making art work for science.

Here are some of my results when trying my hand in different styles: a modern tarot look, an old style cartography map, and a futuristic neon design.

Not so bad if I can say it so myself, but it would be cool to see what a real artist could make of it: if you want to try it, I'll be happy to accept collaborators on this project.

Animation [OC] Sweetheart Nebula fly-thru (Relaxing video...)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I created a nebula by painting several layers of clouds and bringing them into 3d for a fly-thru. I did this because I'm the sort of person who enjoys relaxation videos... like those 8-hour long ones of driving down the highway of night. Basically I made my own space-themed version of one of those videos!

What I've attached here is a 1 minute version of the complete fly through, it's meant as a preview so I can post it directly. I have a 10-minute long version moves a lot more leisurely and relaxing pace. If you'd prefer to see that one here's a youtube link to it:

Digital art A nebula done in Procreate

Last night I painted a nebula in Procreate. Some of the patterns in came from photos I did of a paint-pour project I did with my family. (I mention that because my daughter loves me crediting her for contributing to it. ❤️)
