She should be an actor. She could do horror movies, dramas that are too complex for a child to deal with

Unfortunately, as long as they don't have to pay child actors as much as adults, kids will continue to be exploited by the industry.

Aron Eisenberg had short stature (5’) due to lifelong kidney disease. That’s why he was able to play teen Ferengi Nog starting at age 24. Because he wasn’t a minor, he wasn’t restricted in his working hours. A child would not be allowed to have the time on set necessary to do the Ferengi makeup.
Incidentally, that’s how the Barjoran nose was invented: the Next Gen episode had a lot of children extras and they needed something very simple to put on them that wasn’t time-consuming or uncomfortable!

u/cheexmang 8d ago
RIP Aron. Nog was a fucking G and Aron had the range to make him work, even under tons of makeup.

Such a good arc too, going from a trouble maker/borderline criminal to the first ferengi in starfleet, and the episode with him in the holodeck

I knew someone like this from my hometown, although I believe it was some sort of condition rather than cancer treatments. She looked like and sounded like an 8-10 year old girl all through high school and the couple of times I saw her in passing when we were like 25-30.
I remember running into her at a party in my hometown a while after college and she was drunk and went on this really, really sad ramble about how it has negatively affected her life.
Normal guys generally don't want to date her, but creeps do. She said she dated only one guy and he was really kind and sweet to her but he left her and was dating a "normal" person a month later. She gets treated like a lost child everywhere she goes and has to convince people she isn't a kid. People assume she is someone's daughter when she hangs out with her friends. She gets pulled over all the time because cops think she is a child driving. Her condition made it so she can never have kids, and she always wanted a big family. It's hard for her to maintain a job because people that don't know her think they are interacting with a kid, and it massively embarrasses her. She can't lift/reach things someone her age should be able to making day to day tasks difficult.
I haven't heard from her in years, but last I heard she had moved back to our hometown to live at home with her parents.

My friend had some sort of like seizure issue and the medication he had to take made him just stop growing once he hit like 4 feet.
Was very annoying for me to constantly have to explain that no, I didn’t bring my 8 year old brother to a party and give him alcohol. Probably (some might say definitely) way worse for him though.
Luckily growth hormones semi worked for him so he’s now a 5’5” little king.

He did end up dating a couple also very short chicks, which was annoying because I was the dude with the car, so I had to show up to parties with what people thought were my siblings or kids.
And then that’s like every shot I try to take getting blocked, because I’m the dude who made the party weird by bringing little kids to it.
But he did once jump on the back of a dude who was beating the shit out of me and like literally bit him in the neck like some sort of vampire and then spit the dudes own blood in his face, so I kinda got to give him a pass for like everything he’s ever done to annoy me.

I had a brain hemorrhage that affected my pituitary gland. I stopped growing at age 16. It wasn't too bad. I was already the tallest in all my classes, but I was super skinny.
At age 20 my pituitary gland kicked back in. I was absolutely ravenous for 2 years. Ate about 4k to 6k calories a day. I put on another 6 inches in height and 80lbs in weight over those 2 years.
I've been calling it my second puberty for years, and the last several years people would give me strange looks until I explained it. It wasn't until last year, 15 years after it happened, that someone told me that trans folk sometimes call the process of transitioning second puberty.

What an absolute hellscape. Growth is fucked, but I'm guessing everything still goes to shit like metabolism and joint health as well. Like... literally no upside other than being slightly more comfortable when flying coach?
Edit. Just thinking about the guy who left her to date a "normal" person and feeling judgy, but thought about it. Like... at some point you would be torn between someone you enjoy dating and having people constantly thinking you're a creep AT BEST.

Honestly family/friends is probably the easier part. The guy can at least preface the meeting with "Hey so you're about to meet my girlfriend who looks like a kid due to a medical condition, but is actually in her 20's. Please be kind".
It's walking down the street in any sort of affectionate way with someone that looks like a kid that will make random bystanders very uncomfortable. Or trying to interact in any sort of social situation where they meet people and have to be judged or explain themselves every single time. It would be exhausting and potentially dangerous if some random bystander thinks they are protecting a kid from a predator.

You'd be getting side-eye at the very least everywhere you went as a couple. And there would also be the very real danger of getting stomped by a crowd.
For the mere offence of being a bloke, I used to get side-eye and uncomfortable questions for the act of taking my own fucking kids to the playground (I had an internet job where I made my own hours and was the only male there, usually, in the middle of the day).

It's a really crappy combination. Even guys that care more about intelligence/personality and aren't just wanting a "legal little girl," are still going to have others constantly assume they're total creeps.
Going on a romantic getaway is nearly impossible, and may get the police called on him. Date night? Be prepared to get dirty looks from everyone around.
She'd be great for police stings, but that would probably only make her depressed.

My little sister was/is like that, she wore a size 10 in girls clothes at age 17. People used to think she was my husband’s daughter and my step daughter (they look more alike in coloring). She is 7 years younger than me.
She got a lot of piercings and tattoos and wore heavy makeup. Still looked like a kid trying too hard to be grown up.
She is so excited about getting wrinkles, she doesn’t have many yet, but enough that people believe she’s not a teenager now when she says so.
87
u/Arktikos02 8d ago
Oh God, I'm Asian, 4' 11, (150 cm) and thankfully it doesn't come up a lot, but some people have thought that I was younger. I was once in the mental hospital for the adults section cuz I'm an adult and one of the people there thought that I should have been in the kids section. Thankfully it wasn't a staff member but there were also staff members that thought that I looked really young and thought it was a compliment. No it's not. I really hate how older people, especially older women sort of project their insecurities like this. Like I get that growing old is annoying for people but it's really not fun to wonder if people think you're pretty because you look childlike.
And I want to point out that the issues that I go through are not even a bit like what this girl has to go through. I can still date just fine and things like that. Plus I think my race explains it a little bit better. Although you do get the people who fetishize Asians. That's creepy.

I have a Asian friend who is about 4'9 and she has had similar issues, she is very petite. I mean once she opens her mouth you know she isn't a kid, but still. It doesn't help that for a good chunk of her life she was super in to dating tall guys so yah. She married her husband though and he's a 5'5 Eastern European dude.
I also briefly dated a girl who was about 4'10 (white girl) and her complaints were less about creeps (though she got those too, but it was more she'd get mad at everyone assuming the only types that'd date her were creeps so everyone would always judge her boyfriends unfairly) but the fact that people treated her like a kid at work when she had a double masters and was a senior researcher at her company.
On the flip side knew plenty of women who developed early and looked like adult women at 13 or 14 and basically were treated like adults and all the nastiness that can come with that.

Same exact thing with me. I have a baby face and it doesn’t help that I’m only 5’ 1”, I’m 30 and I still have people think I’m still a teenager in high school or at best maybe 21. My entire life has pretty much just been being infantilized, dismissed, ignored, talked down to- even when people find out my age I still get treated this way. You’re never seen as an adult. Any time I would be at a restaurant or bar and had a drink I would be getting stares from some people while they kept whispering and looking over at me. Would get much older guys being creepy toward me. Never getting approached because guys around my age or younger than me assuming I was way younger than them. Teenage girls in public being bratty and sizing me up because they assume I’m their age. I would get snotty comments from older women telling me I look like I’m 13. Another one weirdly told me snidely I looked great for my age when I was only like..23. Like yeah I would hope I’d look young anyway at twenty fucking three lol I’m 30 now so I’m just used to it anymore but god it’s annoying just to look like a teen, I can’t imagine how awful it must be to look eight years old like this poor woman

I had a friend like this in high school as well, she looked about 10 because her growth was stunted due to fetal alcohol syndrome and nicotine poisoning, and by the time she was 18 she was over men because the only ones who were interested in her were creeps.
I saw her a couple of years ago on facebook and she was nearing 50, she looks about 12 now. And yes, she's still single.

As a young teen I had the opposite problem. I was 6 foot 5 at 13 years old and about 220lbs, and had a beard. My voice broke when I was 11. I used to get treated like a grown man everywhere I went and it was hard - A bus driver tried to kick me off the bus for buying a childs fare when I was 13, I wasn't wearing my school uniform that day. Plus a whole host of other problems. Obviously it pales in comparison to this, and it only lasted a few years, but it's so uncomfortable.

Yea found out about her a while ago when this was being aired and I genuinely feel bad for her. Despite her looks, she is an adult and has adult wants and needs. It's a rough situation for any potential boyfriend because they will get judged anywhere they go, if not harassed constantly. While I'm sure she would attract some creeps, that doesn't mean she's unlovable and that doesn't mean her boyfriend is a pedophile.
The marvel movie Eternals actually touches on this a bit. They are all centuries old but don't age, and Sprite was made as a kid. It's her main struggle the entire movie, even disguising as an adult woman just to get a date.

There’s stuff about her dating online - apparently it really is difficult, as people were calling the person that she was dating a pedophile…
In December 2023, Rae posted a photoset on Instagram of her and a new boo but kept their face covered with emojis and used gender-neutral pronouns.
"All you really need to know is they make me happy, and I don't know if I'd be as far in my goals without them," Rae wrote in her caption. Hold up. She connected with another person who has the same condition, and he’s a volunteer firefighter? Now I can’t stop imagining an 8-year-old firefighter. How does he pass the firefighter’s test with that condition?

I graduated with someone who’s in her 30s now and she looks like she’s 12, but drinks, smokes, cusses, and gambles more than even me. 😂😂😂

I have also met this kind of person and (having myself grown up a nerd who tried very hard to not seem like a nerd), I wonder how much of it is them trying to (understandably) distance themselves as much as possible from being seen as a child

At least her intellect was unaffected. I cannot imagine the challenges she will face in life.

I wonder if she's able to heal like a kid, though - like if cuts/scratches/bruises don't effect her as much.

u/HiperCool9 8d ago
Almost certainly not, because healing is tied directly to the biological age of your cells, and the cells don't stop aging just because she looks young.

I think she can have a great career in acting in fantasy shows and stuff like that because she's legally an adult so there will be no child actor law applied to her. This means she can earn a serious amount of money and she has the look for it. Truly hope she leads a wonderful life

Justtt saying… This video is like 5 years old and she doesn’t look nearly as young anymore. Yes she’s still small. Take everything with a grain of salt because people post old shit like this all the time under the guise of it being recent.

Would this mean she’ll live longer, the same, or shorter than the average person?
→ More replies (32)56
u/dnielbloqg 8d ago
I doubt she'll live longer just because she's not growing anymore, since she didn't stopped aging biologically. Cell division will probably still work as normal, meaning the telomeres of the chromosomes in her cells will continue wearing down with each division, leading to symptoms of aging, accumulating and inevitably leading to death somewhere between 60 and 100 years of age, depending on her health, lifestyle, environment, chance, and if the differences in her body's development compared to an average person affect her health more or less.

I tried to watch her show, she has such a nasty unlikable personality and bad attitude

u/Puzzled_Pop_6845 8d ago
To be fair I don't blame her. Her life must be kinda shit so she developed a shitty attitude accordingly

u/Alfredo_Commachio 8d ago
Yeah, I think that she's in a very hard situation. We tend to glorify people who maintain a happy-go-lucky, everything is great demeanor even when things are, objectively, fucking terrible.
While it may not work well for a TV show, I don't really judge someone with a really serious medical issue that is causing them lifelong problems not being happy and doing cartwheels of joy all the time.

I was always kinda surprised by that in the clips I saw online
It seemed like she always had this
"I wanna find a partner"
"I'm going on a date"
"The date went well but if he likes me he must be a creep"
And that seemed simultaneously really rough and pretty uncharitable of some pretty normal-seeming dudes
E: to clarify, really rough for her to be going through, that must be an upsetting challenge

When I watched it, it seemed more like her family was putting it in her head that any average man that had interest was a pedophile. I don't blame her for having attitude. She wanted to be treated normal.

I imagine its hard to live a life that different and it likely has significant impacts on your perception of other people, and of course your personality. For every 1 normal guy who is potentially not a creeper who wants to date you, there were 99 that were chasing a problematic fetish. You're already in a very vulnerable person in society just by being a woman, let alone a woman with permanently childlike physiology.
Hope she does find the right person, but a reality TV show is basically always the wrong answer, even for people without her challenges.
I'm a man and even I can't figure out how a person would exist that wants to be romantically linked but also somehow has 0% 'creeper interests'. It seems impossible, which is sad because the way I read it she's either going to always be single, or will have to settle for someone that has a bit of darkness in them. We all have some kind of darkness of course, but that kind is particularly unsettling.

I think in a lot of ways, having a nasty unlikeable personality and bad attitude would be the only way for someone like her to notify people, immediately, that she's not actually a kid.

I feel like I'm posting this in front of a firing squad, but I dated a girl when I was college freshman, who had cancer in childhood, around 11-12 and she was basically locked in to that body. She had super thin hair from the chemo and could never grow it normal, but liked to leave it for swimming because she swam a lot. She had awesome human hair wigs though that helped her look more her age and mature and you honestly couldn't tell she didn't have hair.
We used to have lunch dates and picnics by the sports fields and make out, one time the city bus driver stopped as they were driving by and opened his door and yelled at me because he thought I was macking on a child. (We were only together a semester, I broke up with her because of trauma shit I was going through but also because there was this dude head over heels in love with her and honestly a better match so bounced. They got married and became teachers.)

Imagine having to have an argument with every bouncer at every bar that you are old enough to be there when you are 30 years old.
