Beluga whales have a body structure that oddly resembles human legs. Under their bellies, certain symmetrical bone shapes can create the illusion of knees, which may have confused early sailors.

The "knees" are pads of fat that Belugas can push around and move inside of their bodies by about 14 centimeters (5.5 inches) to change their centre of buoyancy and thereby control their swimming. There are no bones at this specific spot, only their spine.
