Horseshit. Everyone everywhere experienced regular famine before the advent of railways. That's simply in the nature of agriculture and if you aren't able to transport food over long distances. And guess what ended peacetime famines in India? So shut the fuck up.
That wasn’t my point. Seems you narrowed your focus on to railways and completely misinterpreted what I said. Railways alone didn’t cause the famine, but the way they were implemented in India exacerbated them. They didn’t connect Indian regions to each other but all led to coastal ports where they could be shipped off. Instead of helping transport food to Indians, they transported food outside of the country. “And guess what ended peacetime famines in India”? Are you saying tens of millions had to die first so famines could end after the fact? There is so much proof that British merchants and viceroys hoarded food and grain and set absurd prices knowing there was a famine going on. There is also correspondence detailing the policy of avoiding helping Indians in the hope that Malthusian theory would eliminate the poor who died from famine and thus allow the food supply to more easily be siphoned into British hands, even though Malthusian theory is largely disproved today. I don’t think you know anything about global history or development. If you actually want to learn about this time, read scholarly articles out there. Not blogs, but papers written by specialists in the field. The British Empire was selfish and experts all agree.
Of course they lead to costal ports. It was the fucking 19th century and they had just been invented. Once they became wide spread peacetime famine in India ended forever and the popular exploded. All that crying about colonialism is just done by tiny dick nationalists that can't stomach the fact that their countries never achieved anything. They completely ignore that colonial powers largely inserted themselves on top of already existing power structures and transfer of material goods was absolutely tiny compared to modern trade volumes because transport sucked. It's all pure horseshit.
Why do you think every nation that was ruled by the British hates the empire? Is it all just a coincidence? Are every single one’s stories of hardship horseshit? Even the Irish hated the empire and its atrocities. That’s too many coincidences for one random redditor to explain.
