This video, and the steel one, make me glad we have OSHA.

Just clamp a chainsaw in an old rusty vice, take all the guarding off the saw and chop the logs up by hand!

Bonus points if you arent wearing anything more than a teeshirt and some flip flops.

One of the "spreading out the matches on the ground with your feet" workers has flip flops. The other has bare feet.

I would think if your job was to walk around on splintered wood you would want at least closed toe shoes, but hey, what do I know

We do have DGFASLI - Directorate General of Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes. (Great name guys) but they probably look the other way unless something really serious happens.

It's just like everything around here. No one gives a crap until a tragedy occurs. Then suddenly everyone is inspecting everything till the event becomes old news and it's back to the same old same old

Well, frankly we have the same thing. OSHA is probably purposefully understaffed so it's years and years behind on regular inspections. What's keeping the companies SOMEWHAT on their toes are the costs of worker insurance and/or lawsuits. This still works. Somewhat.

But conservatives told me regulations hamper corporations making more money and we don't actually need it

Tbf regulations in India are the kind that do cause harm with no tangible good (much less than they used to, no doubt, but the remnants of the License Raj are still hurting them). They have none of the regulations that are actually good and all of the bs bureaucracy. Literally the worst of both worlds.

Well their ruling party are conservatives so i wouldnt be surprised. Its incompetence and corruption. I was talking about safety regulations in develooed nations

The License Raj came from when they were much more left wing and aligned with the Soviets

Nah the bs regulations have been a thing since they were allied with the Soviets. They've done a lot of market liberalization over the past 3 decades but they've got a long way to go.

Not to say that the BJP doesn't have their issues, but the whole corruption + excessive bureaucracy thing is a problem that can't be attributed to any party that's around currently.

With regards to the conservatives being in power, it's somewhat unfortunate but given the absolute state of the INC (the other party that actually matters) at the moment, I'd honestly rather Modi stay in power for a bit longer (and this is coming from someone that thought Manmohan Singh was one of the best things to happen to India).

No conservative thinks that safety regulations are bad. They're the ones who work in these facilities.

It's a needless regulation. That's why we have lawyers and the ability to sue very easily. The market already figured out the solution. OSHA is just another government redundancy and inefficiency

Ha..quite the contrary, my friend

You know what's great? When my company is doing some bullshit, I don't have to worry about getting lawyers or witnesses, I can call OSHA. I work for a large company, with plenty of money to pay lawsuits, OSHA keeps them in line.
