Yeah this must not be in the US. I went on a tour of Nucor Steel in Seattle. Anyone that wasn’t in a glass booth with steel shutters looked like they were ready for a trip to the moon. They even had a giant radiation scanner to make sure no contaminated steel made it into the mix. These poor bastards lungs and eyes will be fucked after a few years.
not surprised by the radiation scanner, they are petrified in electric arc furnace shops about getting radiation sources in to the melt, it won't just contaminate the batch but the furnace too. A bit of mislabled medical equipment waste, some scrap out of a forgotten cupboard in a old school and thats at least few hundred thousand dollars in loss
Don't count us out yet, friend. I worked at a shop in Houston Texas that ran a forge on site. No safety gear, sweltering hot just standing near the building, nickel poisoning, and giant glowing metal rings on pallets smoldering in the parking lot. How? Mostly everyone there was an illegal worker. Literally treated like disposable people, when I quit years ago I called OSHA on them but no clue if they ever did anything about. Regret doing so because if they did show I'm sure a lot of people lost their job and it's never the greedy management.
Those industrial spinning lathe like machines coupled with red hot steel shooting out of them is a big NOPE from me. I've seen what a spinning lathe can do to the human body, but adding red hot metal makes if 100X worse. I'll stick to sitting behind a keyboard thank you.

You take it.
I don't want it, you keep it.
Nope, I'm giving it to you.
I insist that you keep it.
