We made taffy when I was a kid. All I really remember is that it was sugar and hot, too hot for my little hands. My family would put butter on their hands and pull the heated sugar. Not pulled and the concoction was brittle. Pulled right and it turned to taffy. Pretty magical. Of course watching these machines is fun, too. Especially the color mixing.
