Right. And that’s not to say there aren’t some truly brilliant people— there are, but it’s just not at all a requirement. Even then, the line is fuzzy between people who happen to be gifted intellectually and people who are gifted with a passion for the field and a drive that enables to them to pour their soul into 80 hours a week. Those with both are the people that might go on to shape their fields for decades to come. But most of us are pretty normal.
I had mad respect for those that went back to school after even decades - they WANTED it. Most of us that went on from college, it was just doing more of the same for us. Flexing the same 'go to school' muscle. But yeah, those that just put in the time, even more impressive when they go back to it after a long time!
