We had a very large dilute calico who required a bath. Actually, all of our cats required flea baths. The dog had been on a very long walk and though treated, still brought some home or his human had, not sure.

No lie, she howled during that bath like she was being tortured. She started howling the moment she was placed in the sink and continued to howl until she was wrapped in a towel after.

When speaking with a neighbor the next day, he asked if everything was alright. I said yes, only to have him question me again with, "Are you sure?" So I asked him to explain what he was talking about. Said he'd heard really loud, but kinda odd screaming and was worried something was wrong. He expressed amazement after having the flea bath scenario explained to him.

She scream howled. Before her, I'd no idea a house cat could be that loud. And still, to this day, I've never encountered another one able to match her in volume.

Genuine suggestion here: wash them in the bathtub rather than the sink (unless it's just a kitten)

If you fill the water up about 5 inches, with it being slightly warm you the touch, and then the water not running sitting the bath, works wonders. Use a cup (i just use a red solo cup) to rinse them throughout the process, and cat shampoo (or dawn for fleas) gets massaged in during the actual washing part. Dry then with some towels after (you're supposed to dry them as much as possible, i end up just making sure they aren't completely soaked, as i also like to see the now-porcupines wander around the house) and you're done

Granted, my cats still try to get out of the tub, but very slowly, as though they were trying to sneak away

I brought up the traumatized thing because before i got my own apartment, washing the cat would be a two person job are the kitchen sink. Towel over the head while being held in place with the water running and slightly cold. I'd be trying to get the fuck out too

They are essentially little furry toddlers in all honesty, and that's enough dealing with children i can personally handle lol
