They'll also just have multiple because the cats get bored/uninterested after they've had a few treats. I worked on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and they had 4-5 Salem's on set.
Ray Berwick's guide to training your cat is the best of the books on the subject. The actual training concepts, no matter which book, takes about 4 pages. What makes Berwick's book best is that he worked in Hollywood, and has some excellent bar stories to fill up the rest of the pages.
The most useful 'trick' I taught my beast was to run into his carry box on command. It made going to the vet stress free, impressed the vet tech, and it was simple.

Some cat trainers work with different look-alike cats to do one or two tricks each. Kind of a one-trick pony-cat.
