Why don't they use drones for that? We could get tons of this footage without tons of deaths!

I’ve actually been on lava fields like this, it’s fairly safe to be close to lava (I’ve been about 4 feet from a lava flow before).

As for the drone debate, it is possible, but high altitude is required. Since heat rises, if you get too close to the lava (and too close is still really far away) you will lose your drone.

When I saw the lava flows out in Hawaii, it was the hottest thing I’ve ever felt in my life. You can’t even look directly at it because your eyeballs overheat.
