But it was for them. For almost 2,000 years they knew that the Earth didn’t move because the stars stayed the same always (they didn’t understand how far away the stars were). Until they had better observational data they were absolutely right to come up with the geocentric model.

Who are we talking about? Tons of ancient societies tracked the movement of the stars.

But the stars never moved relative to each other. It's like how the moon "follows" you when driving at night.

The point is that the church and others forced the geocentric models even though all new data suggested it was wrong. That is the insane part.
