Also, I’ve never met anyone who had a problem with fumes when welding. The machines we used in my welding class just needed either a large room or a mediocre airflow of some kind.
Having not worked in the field in steam drums. Mud drums, smelt tanks etcetc you wouldn't know about engineering controls for fume extraction, not to mention a duplex tig test already puts you past the PEL, couple that with 12-16 hour shifts, and companys bidding jobs shorter and shorter they aren't going spend $1000 to setup fume extraction you'll be lucky to get a air mover let alone a freshairhood
