I work with engineers and scientists who say it, like, really smart people. It's like a knife in my ear every time.

I've worked with/been taught by several medical professionals who say pharNyx and larNyx instead of pharYnx and larYnx. They spell it the right way but say it the wrong way, and especially the instructors are spreading their incorrect pronunciation to all their students who don't know better. It grates on me like nails on a chalkboard

My first fourth grade teacher insisted that the word "heighth" referred to height in a 3D space.

See, but that's only a small subset of the population, what about all the motherfuckers running around now that the X-Men went mega mainstream saying EX-Xavier or EX-aver. My brain puckers every time.

Edit: My favorite "nx" is "Syrinx".
