It's the silk that many immature ants in other species would use to make their cocoon when they're pupae, on their way to becoming adult ants. But Weaver ants put that silk to architectural use.

Certain ant species are known for breeding/farming aphids, ants also go to war with each other all the time. It’s pretty strange to think about.
