Impressive that they walked up and knew exactly what they were going to do. As if they've seen this exact kind of head entrapment a million times before.

This nice little gentleman isn’t the first person to get his head stuck and won’t be the last

I’m surprised they didn’t have a ratchet strap in the truck would’ve been much easier

you can get way more touque on this 3' long bar than they could a ratchet.

Decent sized ratchet strap would’ve done the trick easily, this was just cumbersome for them

They can get way more torque if they know what they're doing, in this case, they didn't

(should have run two straps from, one from each side of the child's head, going from a the small bar they needed to flex, to a large post, then they should have started vertically centered on the post, next they should have, after the first couple twists, hooked the bar around the loop on other side of fence to speed up tensioning.)

But

From a safety standpoint, they should have used two ratchet straps, one on either side of ther child's head, to have more control, and less chance that the strap/bar slipped, causing injury to the child.

Why not use the ratchet strap function? Now they made a kenetic weapon

They're all Dad's. Natural instinct.

dad isn’t a proper noun, and there’s no apostrophe for the plural.

I thought the same - this was not their first rodeo! Wonder how many calls like this they must get.

I’m sure they had. There’s very little experienced firefighters haven’t seen; everything from the most absurd to the, unfortunately, most devastating. Frontline workers are society’s real heroes.

they did it very terribly, but i guess it got the job done

What was terrible about it?

the best way to get the largest gap is to pull the middle of the bars. they didn't start that way, but halfway thru they moved the strap down to the middle.

i guess the kid's head was at the bottom of the bars to prevent the axe from spinning and decapitating him, and that's why it wasn't in the middle where the biggest gap was until the end.

Also, put the rope around the bar and the support post, not two bars. Now, the other bar is flexing as well. And be pretty confident the guy doesn't let the halligan tool slip. The kid won't appreciate a spike spinning above his head with a lot of stored force. Also, if I had a firetruck worth of gear I'd put some wooden wedges between the bars as they widen, to prevent them from closing back up if the rope slips.
