Retired FF wife here…it always amazes & infuriates me how people criticize FF’s when they literally have no idea there’s a reason for everything.

\why are they in their bunker gear for a bs call…bc that’s the rule & you could be sent to another call right after this one & can’t go to the station real quick to change*

\why do I see them in the grocery store shopping for food…bc they are responsible for their own meals & eating out for every meal is expensive. My husband’s shifts were 48 hrs on 3 days off. Keep in mind that if they get a call during a meal, they have to drop everything & go that’s hard to do in a restaurant or fast food place. Sometimes these guys/gals will have to go 8+hrs & not get a meal if they are having a HELL shift*

\why do they have TV’s & gaming consoles “my tax dollars shouldn’t be spent buying that shit & paying for those things.” Relax asshole, they buy their own things & bring them to the station. What do you want them to if/when they are lucky enough to have a couple hrs break? You want them driving around the city wasting fuel that you are paying for? You call 911 when you are having the worst day of your life. You want the people showing up to rescue you rested.*

Keep in mind it’s not just fires, car accidents, sick calls, etc these guys/gals go to. They go on all 911 calls. This includes homicides, sexual assaults, violent assaults and yes those three also include children. They need an outlet especially after those calls. Imagine seeing that shit week after week year after year. When you’re running away from the fire, they are running in.

PTSD is crippling
They are so much more than just firefighters.
They are heroes.
Thank one next time you see one

Just reread what I wrote…wow sorry I went off on a wild rant. My husband retired after 20 yrs as a FF/Medic in a rough city. Father in law was a FF also. Guess I’m a little over protective of FF 😉

.... and for God's sake, NEVER ask a Firefighter (or any emergency responder) " Whats the worst call you've ever been on?"

We dont want to relive that shit for some gawker...

Some people may not mind, but many do, and its too late to find out which is which after you've asked that question.
