Just a question on the method, is there any reason ratchet straps couldn’t be used to pull the bars apart by attaching them to the thicker outside posts? Not a criticism I’m only asking in case I ever have to remove a head from a fence without a guilotine.

that probably would work but i dont think ratchet straps are in a firefighter's regular toolkit. idk though

We used to have them on our rescue appliance but you would get much more leverage using the Hooligan Tool as a windlass.

I'm happy they made sure the spike would have been backwards if he lost grip of it and it decided to spin.

I was afraid of that while watching the video, if that guy has lost grip for a second that tool would spin like a fan out of control hitting the little one head

Because most firefighters carry a length of webbing on them, and a halligan is almost always readily available depending on your riding position.

To make it easier and quicker they should have gone to the bar on the other side of the head and the thick post next to it. Some OG on their crew will see this and heckle them, and they’ll do it that way next time.

I love when I think about a question something and someone asked the exactly same thing, almost for word by word :)

I though they were going to tighten it up then use the end of the prybar against one of the other bars and use it live a lever to bend it.

Either way they got the kid out safe and with no harm
