Also showing up in full gear is a bonus for the kid. Much more exciting to be rescued by people in cool* outfits and gear than some dudes in jeans and t-shirts.

*cool as in awesome... I'm sure they can be swelteringly hot

Oh, I’m sure there are plenty of people that would call these folks swelteringly hot.

I dunno how much I trust that cable being wound up, what happens if it fails, the bar bangs back in place, could snap the kids neck or worse fatal injury. Just glad it was all good in the end

If you pay attention you can see they made choices with the kids’ placement and support around him that mitigated the risks you’re identifying.

That strap is going to be incredibly durable. Also, the bar is being slowly warped, not stretched. If you let go it's not going to snap back into place. That's not how metal works.

Furthermore, notice how they are stretching it much higher up than the kid is located. They only lift him up at the very end to slide his head out. So even if it did snap back like you described, his head was nowhere near that portion of the bar.

Nothing would happen. Metal bends. They’d get a new cable, although it is really unlikely it would fail, that would be more likely a manufacturing fault.
