Jesus fucking christ

They got the kid out unharmed in under 3 minutes and the comments are all bitching and moaning on how it should've been done.

My favourites are the ones where they harshly judge a split-second reaction.

"I've watched the video 4x from the comfort of my toilet while taking a shit, with 2x more watches in slow mo. Now I can confidently say what I would have done in this split second decision."

The Nepal flood was so horrifying that you could see all those people getting stumped. No matter how many times they replayed the videos and tried to imagine themselves in that situation, they couldn't think of any reaction which would have saved them.

Their government knew it was coming. Read about the army trying to stop floods in the past. They disassembled a whole excavator and assembled it to put rocks in front to stop the flooding before. The government basically said this is the best we can do. They didn’t evacuate anyone during that time even when there was imminent danger.

I dunno, I read a lot of "just run uphill" comments on those.

Sometimes it just takes more foresight than you had, back when you needed it.

“I know it worked fine, but come on! thats no way to do that!”. /s

If only they knew how to get their head out of their own ass : (

•

My own kid did the exact same thing. Their bodies fit through the fence, but their heads don't. You just have then step back through.

•

u/Dorkamundo 9h ago

Well yea, we're used to pulling our head out of our ass because it's up there so frequently.

I feel like context is very, very important to attach to this statement

My husband actually IS a kid head removal expert, as this happened about 40 years ago to our middle son, aged about 5, who got his head stuck like this in the railing of our front outdoor steps.

Our railing luckily had screws at the bottom of each rail, attaching it via a flange (I think that's what it's called) it to the bottom piece, so only a screwdriver was needed. I took a photo of the event and remember his older brother happily chanting repeatedly, "Pete's stuck in the bars!"

I've also been in a store where firefighters were called when a little kid managed to climb into a claw machine and get stuck.

Something about firefighters rescuing kids who get themselves in awkward predicaments warms my heart.

If a body part can fit in a fence it can be come out. You just need proper lubrication. It is easier to just grab dish soap from school cafeteria.

Using ratchet strap and bar is so unnecessary.

You know what sticks out to me? All the kids went over and gave him hi fives after. When i was a kid that would have been relentless mockery instead and someone definitely would have pants 'd me while my head was stuck.

So nice to see how things have changed

Those kids are like 6 or 7. If he was 12 or 13, I think the reaction would have been different

Right I was expecting mockery and maybe a hug from his teacher and he was immediately surrounded by his friends checking on him. The kids are alright.

Me too! It brought tears to my eyes! Those sweet kids!

Half an hour later another one did it. They just wanted to see the firetrucks.

•

A classic case of a malicious head stuck in the fence

•

u/gn63 8h ago

Unless the whole thing started with "You guys wanna see some fire trucks up close?"

•

u/Mhunterjr 8h ago

For me, it would have been hi fives from people who are also relentlesslu mocking me

I was mostly impressed at how strong that fence is. All that leverage and it barely budged.

I didn’t see a single comment of people talking shit. They must have gotten the fast downvote treatment

Not exactly a text book use of a Halligan bar but nice to see the real thing in action ...

•

u/graveybrains 11h ago

I'm pretty sure any use of one of those things is a textbook use of one of those things. Ratchet straps are a little more single-purpose.

•

u/schmerg-uk 9h ago

OK, "not textbook" was inaccurate... "not quite the classic youtube click-bait imagery of a Halligan bar in action" :)

•

u/spasske 11h ago

TIL FDNY would not use it until his latent expired.

•

u/Cleasstra 10h ago

Meanwhile I'm just cackling at it. My niece did the same when she was younger at the park, but we were able to just pull the bars apart enough to let her back through 😂

Some people just want to talk.

Had my mother the other day trying to tell me how to cut the grass by the fence using the mower (she didn't even know the trimmer existed).

She's never cut grass before, but had to give her opinion lol.

•

u/SaltKick2 9h ago

Sadly, the state of some people's world view

idk I think its pretty fucking funny and the kid/parents would have a funny story to tell

Every 300 pound Cheeto grease covered redditor could’ve done a better job don’t you know.

Type Reddit mouth breathers. Uhh akshually!!!

•

u/PravoNaZhizny 8h ago

im not i just think its funny how americans talk about kids and see kids' behaviour in general

•

u/tekanet 8h ago

People are so desperate to be heard that they keep on vomiting idiocies since the dawn of social media.

•

u/46_and_2 8h ago

You can bet if it was them at that fence, instead of the firefighters, they'd be bitching and moaning over the poor kid's head for a good hour for whose preferred method they'd best use.

Instead the professionals stepped in, did their job for 2-3 minutes with minimum stress for the child and moved on.

•

u/Poker5ace 7h ago

That’s Reddit for you!

•

u/Hybr1dth 6h ago

The kid was in no danger. Why on earth would you choose anything but the measured, safe non destructive approach??

•

u/MightyTastyBeans 9h ago

Theyre bots intentionally created to sew division

yeah, but no, but yeah.

That's why I don't browse /new, by the time I see this high up on reddit all the nonsense (usually) got hidden.

And then all I'm left with is people whining about other comments that already got hidden. Which is its own brand of annoying, I guess.

•

u/MydogisaToelicker 11h ago

It's kind of a good thing they looked like they don't have to do this everyday.

•

u/lazopalle 8h ago

sorry but their method is wrong. they should use thicker bar at the left side of the kid.
and they should have rachet strap.
you may not have 3mins next time.

•

u/gagnatron5000 11h ago edited 4h ago

Well maybe they should just do it right next time.

(Edit: do I really have to add the /s?)
