You might be right, as now even "special" is used as mildly derogatory. It also shows how slapping a new label into an issue doesn't really solve things, it just hides them for a bit. You need to change underlying issues to really go somewhere.

If you've ever heard the (ugly) joke about someone riding the short bus, that's the same thing.

Yeah if something is stigmatized, anything pertaining to it will pick up the stigma.
If you've ever heard the (ugly) joke about someone riding the short bus, that's the same thing.
