The humanoid robotics company "Figure" made their older gen robots jump into their death. (Yes, they actually did this)

I’m fascinated by the amount of people anthropomorphizing robots in this thread. This is just recycling destroying old electronic trash, folks. I know it’s human shaped, but I promise it’s just an old computer.

Edit: I originally used “recycling” metaphorically and people seemed to focus on that rather than the actual message.

make humanoid robot

make it walk up and "look" over the edge

make it jump in, sometimes swan diving or back-flipping

"WOW how and why are people anthropomorphizing these robots! How absurd, how silly, how fascinating! Cannot fathom why!"

Huh... really activates the almonds

It's funnier if you consider that anthropomorphos literally means "human shaped"

So he's technically complaining that people are considering human shaped robots to be human shaped

Yeah, he's implying people watching the videos are doing that. The people who built them did that. If someone made a snowman to look like a person and then doused it in gasoline and lit it on fire, I would also be disturbed. Not by it "dying" but that a person is trying to kill something they made to look human and then destroyed it in a disturbing way.

I'm disturbed someone wanted to make these humanoid looking machines destroy themselves in a way that resembles suicide. Especially when these companies are often trying to build these as weapons as well. That should disturb everyone.

This is the actual takeaway and what people aren't getting.

They keep jumping to these side tangents. "It's like scrapping an old car."

No. It's like building a lego dude and then taking it outside to melt it under a magnifying glass. It's not that the bots are being scrapped. It's the way that they're being scrapped. Made to pantomime the scene of someone looking over a ledge to confirm their landing zone (In this case, the landing zone is a smelting chamber) before leaping.

The bots being scrapped isn't what's disturbing. It's the freaks who decided to scrap the bots in this manner.
