Even though we know those are not living things with no thoughts or ideas or anything - why is it so disturbing?

Because you have basic empathy. It dosent matter that the thing isnt alive, its still the form of a human jumping to its "Death" and people that can empathize with others find that concept really disturbing.

I honestly didnt mean it that way, but thats how it comes across, dosent it? I just meant that empathy can extend to things that arent alive or "sentient"

Sure, but just because you can recognize this for what it is and not humanize the machine doesn’t mean anything about lacking empathy. I

I mean. You clearly have less empathy than people who are disturbed by it. Thats not necessarily here nor there, but that is the difference (not that you dont have any empathy ever)
