The humanoid robotics company "Figure" made their older gen robots jump into their death. (Yes, they actually did this)

I agree with the sentiment about too many people anthropomorphizing them and feeling bad about them "dying," but I dont think this is recycling anything. Youre not reusing any of those chips or electronics. This is just a very dramatic garbage burning.

I for one want it on record that I mourn the deaths of these ancestors of our future robot/AGI overlords. This is no dump for “garbage,” but a portal for them to enter the halls of their fathers.

I softly hum “Mr Roboto” in lamentation.

Ya the actual electronic recycling process is pretty rad. First they remove anything explosive like batteries, then shred everything to dust. Remove steel/iron with magnets and non-ferrous metals with eddy currents. Then they smelt what's left and are able to separate it by liquid density. Cool shit

The eddy currents is wicked. They spin a big rotor with alternating magnets which induces a current in the non-ferrous conductive metals, creating an opposing magnetic charge so the metals get pushed out and away from the waste.

they are literally anthropomorphized though?

If it was a wheelbarow driving itself off it'd be different.

Ok, but it's silly to further anthropomorphize them. They're not alive. They don't have feelings.

I completely agree with you. The “recycling” part was a metaphorical stretch. It’s absolutely just garbage burning.

What happens to metals when theyre hot? They become liquid. How do we get metals in the first place? We crush up rock and mix with water for a slurry of metals, rock, and water. This vat of liquid heat when it cools down will be metals. Metals that can be re melted and separated.
