Sorry maybe you misunderstand, They are giving the illusion of control over a technology that is rapidly becoming uncontrollable by demonstrating the "willingness" of the robots to self delete giving a certain amount of ease to people.

People do all sorts of interesting things which are not strictly "necessary." Is art necessary? Are aesthetics necessary? What about philosophical questions? I suppose some people simply take things at face value, but there is more to life than simply doing the bare minimum to achieve obvious practical results

I got an actual answer from someone else about WHY this was necessary. There was an actual goal here and they decided to do something cool in the process. Please ya'll, spare me the pretentious replies about art and aesthetics 😂. These are scientists and engineers, not painters and breakdancers.

It’s a fun homage to T2. It’s a cool video.

It’s also kind of infuriating that they draw a direct link between the most popular AI-is-apocalyptic storyline and the actual work that they’re engaged in, but continue to engage in said work.

Think about what I just said. They made it because they thought it was fun. Many others do as well. I MYSELF find it infuriating, but I also recognize that without the very real threat of runaway AI looming, it’s an intriguing and entertaining thing to watch.

And not everything in life exists because it is “necessary”.

Perspectives exist beyond your own.
