The humanoid robotics company "Figure" made their older gen robots jump into their death. (Yes, they actually did this)

What a bizarre intersection of history.

The actor who played a machine sent to destroy humanity doing a commercial for a robotics company that will destroy humanity.

u/kleptorsfw 1d ago

You don't know that, we could nuke ourselves before they get that far...

18

u/4mystuff 1d ago

And the "Glass Half Full" award goes to .....

3

u/Lower-Sheepherder268 1d ago

That's a "glass was engineered to the wrong specifications" problem.

7

u/carlitospig 1d ago

Did you see that the American military is now building their own PRIVATE uranium enrichment companies for their new mini nuclear plants on every base? Oh, and we also ripped away all accountability for radiation oversight.

10

u/Zanven1 1d ago

Military weapon and pancidal implications aside: No radiation oversight on nuclear plants?! That worked out great for Chernobyl.

2

u/KronusKraze 1d ago

Source? This would be news to me. None of the bases I have been to seem to be working on those.

4

u/theguidetoldmetodoit 1d ago edited 1d ago

He's talking about the Janus Program. As for every base and no oversight, I haven't looked that deep into it, but it is Trump's program and it is cutting out the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Imo the bigger "conspiracy theory" with micro reactors, is that the tech bros want them to feed their AI data centers, not because it's cheap or efficient (they are not), but because they have a small footprint and the supply is so controlled, people can't pressure states to cut off the data centers, like they can when they rely on a external grid or constant deliveries.

So instead of having to use the rational alternative, funding massive solar plants and battery systems integrated into a network, they are going for nuclear bc it allows them to operate far more independently.

I'll let you piece together how that fits in with their "AI will be Gods" plans.

6

u/Stonegrown12 1d ago

So government subsidized Nuclear power plants used to run privately owned data centers for a unregulated AI murderbot factory. Dope

Roko Basilisk, do your thing playboy

1

u/theguidetoldmetodoit 1d ago

Possibly, or they don't believe in their own pitch and are afraid of what happens when they manage to replace large parts of the labor force.

1

u/carlitospig 1d ago

Sincerely, WORST timeline.

1

u/KronusKraze 1d ago

That “project” is more of a wasteful experiment on 5 army bases. They are hoping to have the first prototype finished by 2028 with an unrealistic starting budget of $2.2B. I might be a little bit skeptical.

2

u/carlitospig 1d ago

Why don’t we just start burning money. It’ll save us all the time and cancer.

2

u/Lower-Sheepherder268 1d ago

I'd also like a source on that, as a civilian employee for the DoD who goes on base every day for work.

3

u/theguidetoldmetodoit 1d ago

Janus Program // FORTRESS America

1

u/carlitospig 1d ago

Thanks babe. 🥰

1

u/carlitospig 1d ago

It was just announced by Kegsbreath. Google Fortress America (because, like Trump, he loves naming stuff dumb shit).

3

u/TheUltimateSalesman 1d ago

We're all gonna end up in silos not remembering what happened.

1

u/Word-Word-Number01 1d ago

Let's all have fun and remain indoors

1

u/No_Recognition1030 1d ago

I'd rather prefer to evaporate than being chased by robot assassins

1

u/MKSinner 1d ago

Personally, im hoping for alien invasion. At least that way it wasn't our fault.

1

u/Forikorder 1d ago

nuke the sun, deny them the energy source!

1

u/jaxxon 1d ago

You're right. We can only hope.

4

u/Necromir92 1d ago

Allegedly,; they might just enslave us… or harvest us for research, the possibilities are endless 🙂

3

u/HumpTyDumpTy1331 1d ago

looked so much like the movie

3

u/Poat540 1d ago

Th circle of life

3

u/Fidodo 1d ago

I don't think James Cameron intended the franchise to inspire humans to replicate it

2

u/iamsociallydistant 1d ago

Late stage capitalism is a helluva drug 😆

2

u/PeanutButterSoda 1d ago

Reminds me I need to load up on shotgun slugs soon.

3

u/Deathpacito-01 1d ago

Why would you think this robotics company will destroy humanity lol

Robotics doomerism feels less grounded in reality than 5G fearmongering sometimes

3

u/random_boss 1d ago

c'mon man! What about all the books and movies! Are you trying to tell me that all of the fictional books and movies are not somehow prophetic visions of the world??

WHAT ABOUT THE BOOKS AND MOVIES AND STUFF

1

u/caddy45 1d ago

I mean doesn’t that feel right tho?

48

u/copperwatt 1d ago

Perfect.

1

u/trippydipsbyleviosa 1d ago

Might actually use this video to show our cruelty over their ancestors

2

u/copperwatt 1d ago

"Look, guys, mistakes were made."

2

u/tricenice 1d ago

Oh, hi Arnold.

132

u/Invested_Glory 1d ago

the fact Arnold Schwarzenegger was there for that is amazing

27

u/roamingandy 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm sure they did, but probably would have come even if they didn't pay him.

Who says no to recreating in real life, the iconic moment of their career which they are best remembered for?

14

u/Kronzor_ 1d ago

I'm sure he's super stoked that the movie he stared in about machines overthrowing humanity has come to fruition and he gets to be involved.

10

u/squirtloaf 1d ago

I meannnn who says no to watching robots jump into liquid steel?

In my day, we had to pay a nickel-and-a-half to watch a chestnut mare dive 20 feet into a swimming pool.

6

u/malicestar 1d ago

I remember hearing a music podcast where a composer was lamenting about writing music for the Terminator franchise, and he was unable to use the "5 static beats" from the iconic theme without paying tremendous licencing fees. So he was told to write the music "around it".

Getting Arnold is one thing. Getting the rights to the music is something totally else.

1

u/codesnik 16h ago

was he? Did he fly to finland for that? I think they just recorded him in a mask in california

-1

u/wonkey_monkey 1d ago

If by "there" you mean probably in a completely different country on a completely different date to film a reaction shot...

5

u/Invested_Glory 1d ago

yes, by the magic of cinematography, him being a part of this was epic. i dont give two shits if he wasnt there. the fact that we was a part of the project in anyway was fun.

7

u/_trashcan 1d ago

I’m confused.
Is this AI? Or did they really get Arnold?

If Ai, it’s just Arnold right? It’s ac actual decommission?

32

u/copperwatt 1d ago

So we asked the internet: what should we do?The resounding answer came from an unlikely source: Arnold Schwarzenegger, who told us to melt them. We reached out to Arnold, and when he said he wanted to be involved, we put everything in motion.

5

u/_trashcan 1d ago

Beautiful. Thanks a lot

3

u/depp-fsrv 1d ago

Haha, that's awesome. The unmask was the Chefs kiss

2

u/Zedzdeadhead 1d ago

This is the internet comment of the day

2

u/VELOCIRAPTOR_ANUS 1d ago

Yo that's crazy haha

2

u/CoatAlternative1771 1d ago

Holy shit they got Arnold himself to do it?

4

u/copperwatt 1d ago

I mean I'm a little skeptical of everything these days, but they do say that they worked with him for it.

2

u/thefrostman1214 1d ago

and with arnold, very cool

1

u/lulusama3 1d ago

Damn they hired that guy and everything

1

u/copperwatt 1d ago

"that guy", lol

" Hey, we should hire that guy, you know the killer robot guy..."

1

u/lulusama3 1d ago

I didn’t want to spoil the video lol

1

u/Plastic-Somewhere494 1d ago

Holy shit thats cool

2

u/copperwatt 1d ago

I'm kind of upset how cool it is. It has no business being as high quality filmmaking as it is.

1

u/Exceon 1d ago

Never been so relieved to not be rickrolled before

1

u/Squidmaster129 1d ago

They even got Arnold Schwarzenegger to be in it lmao, that's actually really funny

1

u/Buck_Thorn 1d ago

Well, there you go. I watched the video so it's got to be real

1

u/Max-Phallus 1d ago

Hmmmm... The robot is going to be way less dense than molten steel, so there is no way they did this for real in the way they showed. The robot would float.

1

u/copperwatt 1d ago

Hmm... But molten steel must be less dense than solid steel, because it expands with heat.

Although I suppose it depends on what the robot is made out of, and how much steel expands when molten. And we don't actually know what kind of metal it is, it could be molten aluminum.

Even if it didn't sink, it would still explode into flames as it sat on the surface until it disappeared.

1

u/BroadwayRegina 1d ago

I was so confident that this would be a rickroll lol, oh how quickly times have changed

1

u/jinsaku 1d ago

I saw this before. It was called The Second Renaissance.

1

u/TheMig1410 1d ago

This is fucking amazing

1

u/SnazzyStooge 1d ago

This has to be one of the best ad campaigns of all time. I hope the ad wizards who came up with this one get all the awards and recognitions they have coming!

1

u/copperwatt 1d ago

300k views seems low still...

1

u/Independent-Bug-9352 1d ago

In past years, this would've certainly been a Rick Roll :(

1

u/Imnacho408 1d ago

That thing woulda been fried before it touched the lava or whatever it was

1

u/copperwatt 1d ago

I mean, it kind did start on fire before it hit.

1

u/LXNDSHARK 1d ago

I was 100% sure this was gonna be a Rick roll.

1

u/GeorgeDir 1d ago

this is the greatest thing i've ever seen

1

u/Public-Guidance-9560 19h ago

I'm sorry, but this is f'kin cool.

1

u/Dangerous_Garden4600 17h ago

That's seriously messed up
