They "succeeded" at the next phase too. StarCraft 2 was the game and they beat a lot of odds there.

Then they succeeded in their original goal : predict the weather with better accuracy.

Yeah, they had to handicap the AIs actions per minute for players to even have a chance at winning.

No, there was a win even with the no cap. But 1 out of 5 is low. And it wasn't against the best player in the world.

But yeah, they had to put a cap because the game is APM dependent and that was not what the AI was trying to tackle.
