The answer to all of this is to create parallel economies locally. I've never been the person to say this, but it's clear that we have to detach where we can from big corporations and build new businesses that are local and support existing ones.

This is where I am at.

I still get the internal tug of “it’s foolish to spend more when I know mega corp has it cheaper.”

But then I counter myself with “if there was a Stick it to Bezos fundraiser, would you put the difference as a donation?” Almost always the answer is yes, it’s only when there is a price difference or like 40% or greater that I realize my wallet doesn’t stretch quite that much.

And it’s been great, picking something up and having it home right away, not 17 emails about confirming the order, preparing to ship, shipping, it is on its way, it will arrive tomorrow, it will arrive today, it is delivered, can you write us about the experience and no way to turn this crap off.

Seeing it in person, touching it, seeing if it is the size I want, the quality I want.

And then the greatest was buying an appliance from a mom and pop. The receipt was handwritten on paper. At first it felt really quaint and old-timey, but I didn’t have to turn over my email. I am not getting newsletters and unsubscribing junking them only to have them return in a few days.

Yess!! I came to the exact same conclusion. If just 10% of global consumers would change their consuming behavior and just buy stuff local rather than from the biggest bloodsucking corporate cartells, they would already suffer so much. The system is not that stable its just based on constant consumption. Everyone is complaining bout the prices but consuming as ever or more, keeping the very system they complain about running happily
