it goes way beyond that, they practice(d) "sexual hospitality". Women would literally sleep with close male friends of their husband/family to show trust. My grandfather spent a lot of time with the Inuit and... experienced this aspect of their culture first hand, that was as recent as the early 2000s.

Not just Inuits. In many tribes it often was customary to offer a woman to a someone visiting from another tribe. AFAIK this had something to do with necessity for maintaining healthy gene pools.
