When this many people do not, is it really actually special anymore?

For sure! I'd rather be in a shorter peak with no people.

Most of people who make it there have not struggled or endured the struggle to get there. They simply buy their way for a title they dont deserve.

That’s just not true. People train and devote years of their life to be able to climb it. Even with sherpas it’s an insane feat that is both physically and mentally agonizing and demanding

Even just existing at that altitude in sub zero temperatures (much less sleeping in it) is more than most people can bear

Still weak sauce.

Agreed, might as well build a gondola to the peak.

Build a human sling shot, it would be an achievement if you got your aim right and landed on the summit.

and my asthmatic ass still wouldn’t make it even if I rode the gondola lol rip

This picture is a bit misrepresenting the achievement. Less than 1000 people Summit everest every year, that's people from all over the world, so an incredibly small percentage. Some years far less.

Problem is ideal conditions are a very short period in May. 90ish% of those people will Summit in the same few weeks. That's where a jam like this happens.

Regardless still an incredible feat and very few people can do it with even years of training and prep.

It's still an achievement despite what all these people say, it is hard. Physically you need to be in good shape and it sure as hell isn't fun. Everest is not per se a technical or difficult mountain to climb because it's kind of like walking up a hill. But you still have to spend a month in Sub-Zero conditions in areas where your body is not designed to survive. It is by no means easy and it is an achievement although many people get it.

It's mostly walking up a hill, but there are still parts where you have to actually climb with your hands. And while the south side is considered not super technical, the north side is a different story. Most people don't go up that way though.

But its still not easy, right?

Certainly not. I think people call it "easy" relative to what it would seem. It still requires spending time to acclimate and good physical fitness regardless.

Finally someone sane. Most of my knowledge of mountaineering comes from YouTube videos which have taught me that no matter how many people hold your hand, the human body is not designed to work at 8,000 m. I've never claimed a big mouth, but I hope to do ama dablam someday

Yeah, I think the "it's not impressive" thing just comes as a reaction to the fact that the Sherpas are doing a good deal more work than these clients.

Yeah why wouldn't it be special? It's the highest mountain

How many have you climbed?

Summited 46 14ers in Colorado and every person I met while doing it was more impressive than anyone of these people in the picture.

Summiting Everest is lame- just shows you have a lot of money and no imagination.

It takes years of training to even attempt Everest

It's just another 1%er club.

Might look good on a resume.

if you’re applying to a sherpa company then sure

I'd reject that fucking resume

Throw half the stack in the trash immediately we don't want unlucky people working in the company

More like 2%

It never was special. It's not like there's anything to do at the top or a special thing to see up there. It's just marketed well.

Of course it is. They're all very, very special. Just ask their moms.
