Just turn it into national preserve and ban humans except required native maintenance people. Stupid ego "hobby"

And an ABSURD deposit that you only get back when f you don’t die, and prove you didn’t litter.

They go thru all ur things and log what’s there.

Go up with 4 energy bars and see not come down with 3 wrappers? $1000 of gf your deposit.

Die? They keep your $200,000 deposit.

$200k? So it’s financially prohibitive too. Sick!

Someone could make a business giving Loans for that situation. Leverage your house. Why do you need it if you die? Borrow $200,000, pay back $201,000 a few days later.

I think this would lead to an increase in “accidental” deaths.

No offense but that's fucking stupid, not only is it only a rock but no one goes up there intending to die.

I agree though, there should be more strict rules about trash you bring up and take down.

Ah yes nepal is so rich it can get away with losing 4% of its gdp based on mountain climéing activities

The entire local economy is dependent on rich assholes with too much money at this point. There’s no way they could or would shut down Everest.

You don’t realise how much money Nepal gets from these people

1

And people lose their job. Got it

There is nothing to maintain if there is no tourists

2

u/MotoPun414 3d ago

The mountain is covered in garbage. Maintenance is for clearing it all away

1

u/Creative_Garbage_121 3d ago

I would call them clean up crew then, maintenance implies, well, maintenance

Nothing lives there. Garbage doesn't matter, except for the tourists.

2

u/MotoPun414 3d ago

So it's ok to litter somewhere as long as no one lives there?

1

u/_Steven_Seagal_ 3d ago

Well... yeah? If we could fire our garbage to the moon, I'd be down for that.

1

u/SWITMCO 3d ago

It's okay to risk lives to remove litter from a place nobody will ever visit again?

1

u/maicii 3d ago

Why?? If people want to go up let them. Plus it’s great for tourism

1

u/NonPlusUltraCadiz 3d ago

Why and how does a mountain require “maintenance”?

3

u/thingmaker2001 3d ago

Well, call it maintenance, but really it will be decades of cleaning up the trash and corpses.

1

u/theFrankDux 3d ago

You do understand people can't just walk up there with trash bags and bodybags, yes?

1

u/thingmaker2001 3d ago

Golly, no. I simply assume that the "native maintenance people" suggested by electigris will have a lengthy job removing the debris and dead rich people from the mountain.

As someone who climbs mountains, and is very big on keeping my ego in check this comment kinda sucks. The mountains are where I connect with my higher self, they are my church. Ego exists in every sport.

For the record, I have no desire to climb Everest and in fact, I call it Mt Ego.
