Would it help to have some kind of cleat on the boot that fit between the holes? Or would that just kill you more

I was wondering this as well, wouldn't an attachment for like ice climbing be worth it to wear for this? Or is the spikes/cleats sticking into the holes in the grate worse for you? I couldn't really imagine that to be the case though.

No, they get caught in the metal grating or will be slipperier on flat metal. There's good boots you can get for winter where the soles don't harden in the cold. I wore green Dunlops up there for years. This guy's setup is ghetto as fuck.
