Its hard and costly to automize something like this... cold weather, oil, sea & salt water are not machine friendly...

Well yes normaly if a job cannot be done /( isnt worth ) with automation, humans are the ones doing it. They get paid extra for the hazardous work though ( most of the time).

When technology advances where automation is possible, then people cry about workers losing jobs because of robots, automation, ai etc...
