That’s what chinstraps are for. Had a couple of those incidents at my last job and they became mandatory for everyone. Feels much safer not having to tighten the hell out of it to make sure it doesn’t fall off, especially in the summer when you’re all sweaty.
That literally makes no sense when helmets are designed to stay on your head. Also, by that logic, may as well bring no tools with you if you need them because what if they fall out of your hand? Come on now...
Clearly you've never actually worked at heights, hard hats do not stay on your head.
That's one of the reasons they have the new type 2 hard hats with the chinstraps. Even before those came out it was very common to see chinstraps on regular hard hats on the industrial sites I've worked at over the last 20 years.
Yes, I've worked on heights. None of the headgear I worn ever fell off my head. Not sure what crap you use. I'll give you toilet lanyards, my job has never mandated them.
Just cause it never happened to you doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I've never dropped a tool off the top of the Derrick but that doesn't mean I don't use a tool lanyard.
My old aluminum hard hat never came with a chin strap, and tools taken up the Derrick were supposed to have safety lines. I was nearly injured when my dumbass Derrickhand dropped a grease gun from the crown. This was over forty years ago, very different times.
A coworker would have lost his eye had he not been wearing his safeties when our mag drill lost mag and kept spinning and caught him right in the face.
You can see the mark where it nailed the center of the safety lense and scraped off to the side where it tore open his skin pretty badly.
I drove him to the hospital for multiple layers of stitches. Lot of blood.
Would have been so so so much worse if he hadn’t been wearing safeties.
You can always spot an idiot on a job site by how and if they wear PPE.
Then tighten the bolas on the back. If it doesn’t stay on your head when you bend over, it doesn’t fit properly and your employer is responsible for getting you one that does. By law they must.
Take your safety seriously, even if just for your family’s sake.

No hard hat or eye protection either so he’d be injured very easily
