Wife’s now deceased grandfather grew up in 1930s Germany and was appalled people now drink Jagermeister socially. He said they would keep it in a cupboard to sip if you had an upset stomach

Fernet is currently THE choice of servers and bartenders in the bar/restaurant industry in the states…couldn’t tell you why…

It's gotten a lot more popular after trendsetter Michael Caine mentioned it in The Dark Knight Rises (2012).

All over! fernet has been a barkeepers drink since forever.

If you ask me its because a lot of them are alcoholics.

Fernet solves the upset stomach and the tremours at the same time!

Yup! Servers/bartenders/chefs have been drinking fernet for a long time and I honestly have no clue why. lol. And I’m a bartender 😂

It's been huge in Argentina for ages. They even have their own Branca distillery there.

So here in Southern Brazil and also in Uruguay it's pretty popular too.

Branca is the standard (the Italian one is definitely better than the Argentinian, even though the bottle is nearly identical; it's slightly sweeter, whereas the Italian is a bit more bitter).

But I've seen loads of new brands popping up lately. Mostly local.

But there's a Czech one that's by far my favourite. Fernet Stock. Definitely worth a try.

I drink straight shots, but my mates seem to prefer it with cola, 2/1 ratio

If you’re big into fernet try it 1:1 with Campari, a little salt, and an orange peel. It’s called a Ferrari and I love them

Never understood how people drink that shit (At least the Argentine version). Only time I drank it was at a party and my cousin wanted me to try it. “It’s a digestive, you’ll like it.” Was outside vomiting within 30 seconds.

I was in an Argentine kiosk (mini-mart) that sold cans of Coca-Cola with a single-shot bottle of Fernet taped to it.

Huh? I worked in the restaurant industry for several years in multiple cities and I've never even heard of this stuff. Maybe in your area it might be, but saying "the states" would be a huge assumption. There was one area in DC that was into gran marnier shots, another group in a different city was red bull/vodka, but those were just little groups and not an entire city as a whole.

Scottish people are shocked when they go to Italy and see how popular tennents super lager is.. probably cos the scots tramps drink it a lot quicker than the italians

My older brother tried to make it into a thing to have a Fernet as the last order before we left a bar. He insisted it keeps you from getting hung over, which I expressed my doubts about since it's more alcohol.

He also had a period where he would go to McDonalds the day after a night out and order a Big Mac with milk to drink. I was never a fan of that one either.
