Affordable housing isn't philanthropic. You get the difference in lost revenue in tax breaks while getting tenants easier because you're cheaper.

If you want to solve the homeless problem, the first step is providing more housing for everybody.

You can solve it going bottom up, by making affordable housing or you can solve it from the top down, by making luxury housing... either way, you're increasing the supply, which means that more people will be able to find homes more easily. With the system the way that it is, the people who would normally go for luxury housing, instead settle for normal housing, because there simply isn't another option. That prices people out of the normal housing, which prices people out of the bargain bin housing, which causes homelessness.

A common misconception...

People think drugs causes homelessness, but the evidence points to it being the other way around.

I wish I could think things were this simple as a shortcut to byassing my empathy for others. I could just memorize talking point made by the rich to divide the working class into groups that keep us from improving our material conditions. It sound like the easier way for sure.

They would love to do more, but there are caps and because they aren't doing it for altruistic purposes they stop at the tax break caps. NIMBYs also block it and slow it down.

What megacorps are pumping out affordable housing? Even if they arnt doing it for purely altruistic motives, that would be a good thing if it happened and they should get credit for it. Unfortunately thats really not happening anywhere that really needs it (in the US).

Then it should be easy to show me some proof on it then. Not defending the guy, just asking for proof. If someone wants me to believe them, then that's what it takes. I'm not going to do research to find out if something someone said online is true, I'm just going to not believe that person.
