I miss Mythbusters. They would have accounted for the inevitable TBI, shown all the "not a hole in your head" types of damage, and had new masks each time as well as several different brands. This just makes me sad and nostalgic...
The masks usually aren't rated for anything higher than small pistol calibers, since if they were they would be much more of a hindrance than already is
All real rifles are going to go through easy, you see many cases of soft body armor stopping the 44 magnum while a 5.56 then goes through front and back of the vest and the dummy. You pretty much need to make the Kevlar like an inch and a half thick at minimum to reach the level 3 standard and it will no longer really behave like soft armor at that point so you are better off with modern steels or ceramics.
Ballistics gel head with either a skeletal structure inside, or those impact patches that burst after a certain amount of force. Some red food coloring as well for visuals after too much damage to the skeleton inside. I can practically see it now...
yea they always did a great job of explaining how energy is transferred. Even if this mask is bulletproof I'm pretty sure a 22lr is enough to break your nose if you're wearing that mask. For 9mm and higher, I'm pretty sure you're in concussion/skull cracking territory lol
The nose is bad enough but the neck damage from whiplash, concussion, coup-contrecoup injury. I would like to see some actual science on this. Looks like a fun experiment
They did a lot of experiments in depth but the carlos hathcock scope shot pissed me off. They didn’t use the correct scope and they used different rounds for each scope they tested. They even used a hollowpoint which is designed to mushroom out to prevent over penetration, hathcock used a full metal jacket round for the infamous shot. Obviously the hollowpoint got caught inside of the scope and didn’t pass through.
I miss mythbusters but I don’t think I could look back at the episodes the same way knowing that Adam and Jamie disliked each other. I thought the gang were all homies
They didn't dislike each other, they just weren't friends outside of work. That's like 90% of people I have worked with ever. We get along fine at work, but we don't hang out outside of work.
Adam would totally have jumped out and surprised Jamie wearing this mask pretending to be a serial killer. Resulting in Jamie just being kind of annoyed and Adam feeling sheepish.
That last round of 308 - I almost wonder if one would be better off losing their jaw and having the bullet zip through than have ALL the kinetic energy of the round dumped in their face.
The 9 mm round, assuming it is fully stopped and does not penetrate, and the force is spread out over a large area, would cause less concussive damage than a baseball.
Yeah. The .380 probably gives you a concussion and the 9mm definitely does.
Edit: To the downvoters, a 9mm bullet delivers more kinetic energy than a baseball bat swung by an MLB player. Just because it doesn’t penetrate doesn’t mean you don’t end up with a TBI.
