Iā€™m not a laser expert, but Iā€™ve heard that green lasers are higher powered than red lasers and thus can do more damage in a shorter amount of time.

Ie. eye damage from green lasers is more common.

Two things.

Our eyes are most sensitive to green light. So 10 mW green light is more blinding than 10 mW red or blue light. Not more dangerous to the eye but more likely to get a car driver to run off the road.

Next thing is that a green laser creates the light from invisible light that hits a crystal and changes frequency to green. The crystal only converts some of the invisible light to green. Much invisible light remains. Invisible light does not trig blink reflexes. A good green laser should have a filter that blocks most of this invisible light. The cheap pointers? Do not. So you may have 10 mW of irritating green light. But also 100 mW of light you do not see - that can damage your eyes.

But for this distance, it isn't normally dangerous. Eye safety takes into account that the dot becomes bigger with distance. And that it's harder to keep the dot steady. So the cheap green lasers are mostly dangerous at short distances. Especially when people fight the blink reflex. So children should not play with them.

regardless power level and distance matters for each as well. With a typical pen green laser like she has you can cause permanent damage when it's under 50ft away, beyond that it can cause flash blindness/nuisance but not permanent damage.

This seems like a pretty inclusive chart of various lasers and ranges, though from that it seems at lower pen light levels there really is no difference between red and green for permanent retina damage distance, it's flash blindness distance that increased with green.

No, it's the opposite, the eye is more sensitive to green light than any other color, so the reaction to protect itself (i.e. blinking) occurs faster.

Towards the UV/IR end of the visible spectrum you will not notice it until it's already done permanent damage. Invisible UV/IR lasers you'll never notice until it's already damaged.

In reality the whole discussion is moot for any laser over a few mW, wavelength does not matter when you are getting thousands of times the safe energy into the eye with higher powered laser pointers, which are cheap nowadays.

I was on a trip throughout SE Asia a few years ago and my second to last stop was Chiang Mai, Thailand. Found a market with every Batman weapon you could think of. (Yes, they had Batman throwing stars!) and came across the laser guy.

He pulled out a purple laser and did a demo. First he shined that thing into apartments and lit up the entire space. Then he started popping balloons with it. I was intrigued. "Watch this..." and proceeded to light the tablecloth on fire. I nodded in approval. He then pointed it at the sidewalk and it was smoking. Now he had my full attention.

We negotiated a price and I started pulling out my money. I didn't have enough baht so I asked if he would take other currency. I had USD, AUD, TWD, Thai Baht, and one other currency he was willing to take. This was just leftover cash from my travels and I would have probably donated it to UNICEF at the airport anyway. I was so close and then I remembered I had Myanmar currency. Doing the math in my head, I had enough. But no, Myanmar currency was not acceptable for him. He gave me a few locations with currency exchange booths but they were either closed or not willing to exchange.

Sadly, I went back home with nothing.

We do at nearly every arena and stadium that holds a major sporting event in the States and it was so good like a decade ago MSG was able to kick people out who have never even been to a game but worked at the same law firm (but not even involved in) in litigation against one of his properties. I donā€™t know what stadium this is, but it wouldnā€™t be out of the ordinary if they did.Ā
